Use when a 10-foot cable falls short of your routing path, an existing cable is damaged, or a secondary control interface requires a longer run. Measure your full routing path from the module to the switch interface — through panels, around obstacles, along the actual installation line — before choosing. Straight-line distance understimates the required cable length every time. The 25-foot system maximum is the hard ceiling regardless of cable length.

My routing path is just over 10 feet. Do I need the 15-foot cable or can I make the 10-foot work? Measure the actual routing path — not straight-line distance. Route the tape measure through the same path the cable will take: over the firewall, along the dash, through any panel gaps. If that measurement exceeds 10 feet, order the 15-foot cable. Routing a cable that is too short strains the connectors and risks signal loss or physical damage over time.
Can I use a standard CAT-6 Ethernet cable from a hardware store? The RJ45 CAT-6 connector spec is standard, but the sPOD cable uses reinforced, weather-resistant construction rated for vibration, temperature swing, and moisture exposure in off-road environments. A commercial-grade indoor Ethernet cable may fail prematurely under those conditions. Use the sPOD-specified cable for long-term reliability.
My total routing distance is close to 25 feet. Is that a problem? The sPOD system supports up to 25 feet total between the power module and the switch interface. Stay within that limit. If your path approaches or exceeds 25 feet, reconsider module placement to reduce the cable run before ordering.
