Overview

This is a FOX Performance Series 2.0 IFP smooth-body rear shock covering a wide range of Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer H2 trucks and SUVs — a monotube design using an Internal Floating Piston (IFP) to separate shock oil from a nitrogen-charged gas chamber, race-developed valving, and a one-piece 2.0" clear-anodized aluminum body. This single part number covers many distinct model lines with different verified year ranges and different lift-height ratings — verify your exact model and target lift height against the table below before ordering.

Before ordering: This is a rear-position shock only — it does not include a front shock. This part number spans Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer H2 applications, each with distinct model lines, year ranges (including some non-continuous gaps — see table), and lift-height ratings. Three different lift-height ratings apply across the covered models: 0"–1" (Yukon XL 2500, Hummer H2), 0"–2.5" (most HD pickup lines), and 0"–3" (Avalanche 2500, Suburban 2500). Confirm your exact model, year, and target lift height against the Verified Fitment table — do not assume universal fit across all listed makes/models.

Required separately: Manufacturer-specified installation hardware, tools, and a professional installation are recommended; this listing does not include installation instructions or hardware beyond the shock itself. Confirm whether a matching front shock is needed for your build — it is not included with this SKU.

What Is and Is NOT Included

Included:

  • One FOX Performance Series 2.0 IFP rear shock, part number 980-24-664

Not included:

  • Front shock (not part of this SKU; confirm separately if needed for your build)
  • Installation hardware and tools
  • Professional installation or alignment services

Critical Compatibility

  • Rear position only: This SKU is a rear shock. It does not include or substitute for a front shock.
  • Three-way lift-height split: 0"–1" applies to the Yukon XL 2500 and Hummer H2; 0"–2.5" applies to the Silverado/Sierra HD pickup lines (1500 HD, 2500, 2500 HD, 3500, 3500 HD, and their Classic variants); 0"–3" applies to the Avalanche 2500 and Suburban 2500. Confirm your model against the correct rating before ordering.
  • Non-continuous year coverage: Silverado 1500 HD and Sierra 1500 HD both skip model year 2004 — there is no verified fitment for that specific year on either nameplate.
  • Model name transitions: Several model lines change designation partway through the covered years (e.g., Silverado/Sierra 2500 → 2500 HD, Silverado/Sierra 3500 → 3500 HD in 2007, and the "Classic" nameplate used for 2007 carryover-body trucks sold alongside the new body style). Match your truck's exact model designation and year to the table, not just the general "2500" or "3500" family.
  • Multi-make coverage: This part number is verified across Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer H2 applications built on shared GM platforms. Confirm your specific make/model/year combination against the table rather than assuming cross-make interchangeability beyond what's listed.

Installation Notes

No manufacturer installation instructions were supplied for this task. Professional installation is recommended for suspension components. Follow current FOX installation documentation for this exact part number, including torque specifications and any required hardware, before installation.

The Obsidian Take

This FOX 980-24-664 Performance Series 2.0 IFP shock is a rear-position shock covering a wide span of Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer H2 trucks and SUVs — but "wide span" does not mean universal fit. Three distinct lift-height ratings apply depending on which model you own, model-year gaps exist on the 1500 HD nameplates, and several model lines change designation partway through the covered years. Confirm your exact make, model, year, and target lift height against the Verified Fitment table before ordering.

This Product Is For You If

  • You own a Chevrolet, GMC, or Hummer H2 model whose exact make, model, and year appears in the Verified Fitment table.
  • Your target ride height matches the lift-height rating listed for your specific model.
  • You are replacing or upgrading the rear shock specifically, not the front.

This Product Is Not For You If

  • You need a front shock — this SKU is rear position only.
  • You own a 2004 Silverado 1500 HD or 2004 Sierra 1500 HD — no verified fitment exists for that model year on either nameplate.
  • Your target lift height does not match the rating listed for your specific model in the Verified Fitment table.
  • You are unsure which model designation applies to your truck (e.g., 2500 vs. 2500 HD, or standard vs. Classic) and have not confirmed it against the table.

Common Questions

Is this a front or rear shock?
Rear only. It does not include or substitute for a front shock.

Does this fit both Chevrolet and GMC trucks?
Yes, across multiple verified model lines for both makes, plus the Hummer H2. Check the Verified Fitment table for your exact model and year.

Why do some years show a gap?
The Silverado 1500 HD and Sierra 1500 HD have no verified fitment for model year 2004 specifically — coverage resumes in 2005.

Why are there three different lift-height ratings for the same part number?
This shock's length and valving are correct for a specific target lift range depending on the vehicle: 0"–1" for the Yukon XL 2500 and Hummer H2, 0"–2.5" for the HD pickup lines, and 0"–3" for the Avalanche 2500 and Suburban 2500. Match your target lift height to the rating listed for your exact model.

What is the warranty?
FOX provides a Limited Lifetime Warranty on 2.0/2.5 Performance Series shocks purchased after 3/30/2025 (excluding sports car shocks and 2.0 Performance Series remote-reservoir shocks). See full warranty terms below.
