Overview
This is a FOX Performance Series 2.0 IFP smooth-body front shock covering a wide range of Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer H2 trucks and SUVs — a monotube design using an Internal Floating Piston (IFP) to separate shock oil from a nitrogen-charged gas chamber, race-developed valving, and a one-piece 2.0" clear-anodized aluminum body, rated for a 0"–2.5" front lift. This single part number covers many distinct model lines with different verified year ranges — verify your exact model and year against the table below before ordering.
Before ordering: This is a front-position shock only — it does not include a rear shock. This part number spans Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer H2 applications, each with distinct model lines and year ranges, including some non-continuous gaps (see table). All verified applications for this SKU are rated for a 0"–2.5" front lift range. Some Chevrolet Silverado 2500 (1999–2004) applications are trim-specific (Base, LS, LT, WT) and 4WD-only — confirm your exact trim and drivetrain against the table.
Required separately: Manufacturer-specified installation hardware, tools, and a professional installation are recommended; this listing does not include installation instructions or hardware beyond the shock itself. Confirm whether a matching rear shock is needed for your build — it is not included with this SKU.

Critical Compatibility
- Front position only: This SKU is a front shock. It does not include or substitute for a rear shock.
- Lift height: All verified applications for this SKU are rated for a 0"–2.5" front lift range.
- Trim-specific Silverado 2500 (1999–2004): 4WD only. 1999 covers all trims; 2000–2004 covers Base, LS, and LT specifically; WT is verified for 2004 only. Confirm your exact trim.
- Non-continuous year coverage: Silverado 1500 HD and Sierra 1500 HD both skip model year 2004 — no verified fitment exists for that specific year on either nameplate.
- Model name transitions: Several model lines change designation partway through the covered years (e.g., Silverado/Sierra 3500 → 3500 HD in 2007, with "Classic" used for 2007 carryover-body Sierra 2500 HD trucks sold alongside the new body style). Match your truck's exact model designation and year to the table.
- Multi-make coverage: This part number is verified across Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer H2 applications built on shared GM platforms. Confirm your specific make/model/year combination against the table rather than assuming cross-make interchangeability beyond what's listed.
- Stem top mount: Confirm this matches your vehicle's upper mounting hardware — it differs from the bar pin and eyelet-style top mounts used on other FOX Performance Series shocks in this catalog.
Installation Notes
No manufacturer installation instructions were supplied for this task. Professional installation is recommended for suspension components. Follow current FOX installation documentation for this exact part number, including torque specifications and any required hardware, before installation.
The Obsidian Take
This FOX 980-24-663 Performance Series 2.0 IFP shock is a front-position shock covering a wide span of Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer H2 trucks and SUVs, uniformly rated for a 0"–2.5" front lift across every verified application. The main things to confirm before ordering are your exact make/model/year combination against the table — including the 2004 gap on the 1500 HD nameplates, the trim-specific 4WD-only coverage on the 1999–2004 Silverado 2500, and the model-designation changes partway through the range — plus that your stem-top upper mount matches your vehicle's hardware.
This Product Is For You If
- You own a Chevrolet, GMC, or Hummer H2 model whose exact make, model, year, and (where applicable) trim appears in the Verified Fitment table.
- Your target front lift falls within the 0"–2.5" range.
- Your vehicle's upper mount hardware matches a stem-top configuration.
- You are replacing or upgrading the front shock specifically, not the rear.
This Product Is Not For You If
- You need a rear shock — this SKU is front position only.
- You own a 2004 Silverado 1500 HD or 2004 Sierra 1500 HD — no verified fitment exists for that model year on either nameplate.
- You own a 1999–2004 Silverado 2500 that is not 4WD, or whose trim you have not confirmed against the table.
- Your target lift height falls outside the 0"–2.5" range.
- You are unsure which model designation applies to your truck (e.g., 3500 vs. 3500 HD, or standard vs. Classic) and have not confirmed it against the table.
Common Questions
Is this a front or rear shock?

Does this fit both Chevrolet and GMC trucks?
Yes, across multiple verified model lines for both makes, plus the Hummer H2. Check the Verified Fitment table for your exact model, year, and trim.
Why do some years show a gap?
The Silverado 1500 HD and Sierra 1500 HD have no verified fitment for model year 2004 specifically — coverage resumes in 2005.
What lift height is this shock rated for?
0" to 2.5" of front lift across all verified applications for this SKU.
Does this fit my Silverado 2500 from the early 2000s?
Only in 4WD. 1999 covers all trims; 2000–2004 covers Base, LS, and LT; the WT trim is verified for 2004 only.
