Fitment, Shipping & Product Support
The Fox 2.0 Performance Series Front Shock (SKU 985-24-189) is engineered for 2011β2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD trucks running 1.5" to 3.5" of front lift. 2" impact-extruded and CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum body with a clear-anodized finish β improves heat dissipation over steel-bodied OEM shocks and resists rust. 5/8" hard chrome plated, heat-treated alloy steel shaft. Internal Floating Piston (IFP) mono-tube design separates oil and nitrogen gas, eliminating oil aeration to maintain consistent damping through heat cycles during towing, hauling, and rough-road use. Race-developed high-flow damping piston with application-specific valving tuned to the IFS front suspension on this chassis generation. 6.6" IFP travel. Quiet nitrile rubber bushings allow increased suspension articulation. Redundant sealing pack system (main seal, wiper seal, scraper seal). Uses factory shock mounts and factory mounting bolts. Sold as a single front shock.
This shock is valved for 1.5"β3.5" of front lift β it is not designed for stock-height applications. For 0β1" of front lift, a different Fox part number is required. This part also does not fit the redesigned 2020+ chassis.

| Silverado/Sierra 2500HD/3500HD (Front) | 2020β2026 | Any | β Redesigned IFS chassis β requires a different Fox part number (e.g., 985-24-238 for 0-1", 985-24-244 for 1.5-2.5" with aftermarket UCA) |
| Silverado/Sierra 2500HD/3500HD (Front) | 2010 and earlier | Any | β Different front suspension geometry |
| Silverado/Sierra 1500 | Any | Any | β Different platform |
| Stock height to 1" front lift | β | 0β1" | β Not this part β this shock is valved for 1.5" minimum; a stock-height truck will need a different, shorter-travel Fox part number |
Critical Compatibility
| Configuration | Notes |
|---|---|
| 2020+ Silverado/Sierra 2500HD/3500HD | Does not fit β redesigned chassis requires a different Fox part number entirely, and some 2020+ applications require an aftermarket upper control arm |
| Stock height or under 1.5" of front lift | This shock is not valved for that range β order a different Fox part number for stock-height or minimal lift applications |
| Front lift exceeding 3.5" | Requires a longer-travel Fox shock β confirm the correct part number for your lift height before ordering |
| Long-travel or coilover conversion suspension | Not compatible |
| Mismatched left/right shocks | Replace in pairs β mismatched damping rates between sides causes instability under braking and cornering |
Common Questions
Does this fit my stock-height 2018 Silverado 2500HD?
No. This shock is valved for 1.5"β3.5" of front lift, not stock height. A stock or near-stock truck needs a different, shorter-travel Fox part number.
Does this fit my 2022 Sierra 3500HD?
No. The 2020+ Silverado/Sierra 2500HD/3500HD front suspension was redesigned. This part is specific to the 2011β2019 generation. Some 2020+ applications also require an aftermarket upper control arm with their corresponding Fox shock.
Do I need an alignment after installing this?
A front-end alignment check is recommended after front shock replacement, particularly if the truck was previously running worn shocks that allowed excessive suspension movement.
Do I need one or two?
This listing is for a single shock. Order quantity 2 for a complete front pair, and replace both sides together for handling balance.
What's the companion rear shock?
For the matched rear shock at a similar 2011β2019 fitment, see Fox part 980-24-664 (0β2.5" rear lift) or 985-24-190 (rear companion to this front shock's lift range) β confirm exact rear pairing for your specific lift height.
The Obsidian Take
The 985-24-189 is for the 2011β2019 Silverado/Sierra 2500HD/3500HD owner running 1.5" to 3.5" of front lift who wants Fox's IFP damping, application-specific valving, and aluminum-body heat dissipation over the factory steel shock β direct bolt-on using factory mounts and hardware.
Two checks matter most before ordering. First, confirm your truck is 2011β2019, not the redesigned 2020+ chassis. Second, confirm your actual front lift height falls in the 1.5"β3.5" range this shock is valved for β a stock-height or lightly leveled truck needs a different, shorter-travel Fox part number, not this one.
Non-Returnable Notice: Once installed, this unit is non-returnable. Confirm model year and front lift height before ordering.
