Description
The Obsidian Vision
On a 2007–2018 Silverado or Sierra 1500 equipped with OEM cast steel upper control arms, the Cognito SM Series Uniball Upper Control Arm Kit restores the suspension geometry that lift height and leveling hardware systematically compromise — delivering a commanding stance with the ride refinement and steering precision that define a properly engineered K2XX build. By correcting the uniball operating angle and expanding allowable droop travel beyond the factory arm's range, these USA-made boxed sheet-metal arms eliminate the harsh rebound, premature ball joint wear, and steering wander that plague lifted and leveled half-tons running OEM upper arms at altered ride heights. Built to the same fabrication standards as Cognito's heavy-duty truck lineup, these arms are engineered to hold geometry under sustained towing loads, washboard terrain, and the thermal cycling demands of year-round daily use.

Engineering Breakdown
- Corrects the uniball operating angle for lifted and leveled K2XX Silverado/Sierra 1500 applications, eliminating the suspension bind and accelerated lower ball joint wear caused by OEM rubber-bushed arms operating outside their designed angular range.
- Increases allowable front droop travel beyond the factory upper arm's range, restoring the suspension compliance required for consistent tire contact, controlled rebound damping, and long-term shock absorber integrity.
- Eliminates the NVH transmission and lateral compliance associated with factory rubber pivot bushings by integrating polyurethane bushings engineered to hold caster and camber stable under braking and cornering loads at lifted ride heights.
Cognito's SM Series arms are fabricated from high-strength boxed sheet-metal stampings, fully seam-welded and finished in an electrostatic semi-gloss black powder coat that is oven-cured for corrosion resistance in road-salt and off-road environments. The corrected uniball geometry ensures the outboard joint operates within its designed angular range across the full suspension travel arc — from full droop to full compression — preventing the binding loads that cause factory-geometry arms to accelerate wear on lower ball joints, tie rod ends, and CV axle boots when lift height alters the suspension's operating arc. Polyurethane pivot bushings at the frame end are selected to a durometer that balances NVH isolation with the lateral stiffness required to maintain alignment stability, and all fabrication is performed in the USA to Cognito's production tolerances.

2007–2018 GMC Sierra 1500 2WD/4WD — OEM Cast Steel Upper Control Arm equipped
Compatible trims include: WT, LS, LT, LTZ, High Country, Z71, Midnight Edition, Hybrid, XFE
2014–2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LD 2WD/4WD
2019–2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LD (K2XX carryover) 2WD/4WD
❌ REQUIREMENTS:
Requires OEM cast steel upper control arm configuration — vehicles originally equipped with stamped steel or aluminum OEM arms require a different kit and are not compatible with this application.
Requires 2007 New Body Style — the 2007 Classic body style (GMT800 platform, compatible with 1999–2006 components) is a separate generation and does not fit this kit.
Requires front alignment immediately post-installation to reset caster and camber to specification.
Requires compatible front shock absorber with sufficient extended length to accommodate increased droop travel — verify shock travel spec before ordering if running a non-Cognito shock.
Installation & Technical Notes
Estimated Install Time: 2-Hour DIY Install (per side, with basic lift equipment and hand tools)
Alignment Required: Yes — front caster and camber must be reset post-installation. Preferred caster spec: +3.5° to +4.5° for lifted applications; camber within ±0.5° of zero.
Torque Specifications: Refer to Cognito's included instruction sheet for final torque values on all pivot and uniball hardware — torque all fasteners with the suspension loaded at ride height (not at full droop) to prevent bushing wind-up and premature wear.
ADAS Recalibration: Later K2XX models (2014–2018) equipped with forward collision alert or lane departure warning should have front camera systems recalibrated after any ride height change exceeding 1 inch.
Supporting Modifications: For lifts exceeding 2.5 inches, verify front CV axle boot clearance at full droop and consider extended front sway bar end links to maintain proper anti-roll bar geometry.
Wheel & Tire Fitment
Recommended Tire Size: Up to 35x12.50R18 with 2–3.5 inches of front lift
Maximum Tire Size: 35-inch diameter — 37-inch tires require additional trimming and are not recommended without a full suspension system
Wheel Width: 8–9 inches recommended
Maximum Backspacing: 5.0 inches (to prevent inner fender contact at full compression with 35-inch tires)
Recommended Offset: 0mm to +18mm — negative offset wheels increase scrub radius and are not recommended with corrected-geometry upper arms
