Description
The Obsidian Vision
Fitted to a late-model F-150 4WD, the Cognito SM Series Uniball Upper Control Arm Kit transforms the front suspension from a compromised factory geometry into a precisely engineered platform — delivering a commanding stance without sacrificing the ride refinement that defines a premium build. By correcting the uniball operating angle and restoring factory-spec droop travel, these arms eliminate the harsh rebound, premature ball joint wear, and steering vagueness that plague lifted and leveled F-150s running OEM upper arms. Built in the USA from boxed sheet-metal construction with CNC robot welds and a semi-gloss powder coat finish, these arms are engineered to maintain structural integrity under sustained towing loads, off-camber terrain, and the thermal cycling demands of daily heavy-duty use.

Engineering Breakdown
- Corrects the uniball operating angle to restore proper suspension geometry on lifted and leveled 2015–2020 F-150 4WD applications, eliminating accelerated wear on factory lower ball joints and tie rod ends caused by OEM arm bind.
- Increases allowable droop travel beyond the factory upper arm range, providing the suspension compliance required for consistent tire contact, controlled rebound, and long-term shock absorber health.
- Eliminates maintenance intervals associated with greaseable OEM-style pivot bushings by integrating pre-installed, maintenance-free polyurethane pivot bushings and a precision uniball joint at the outboard end.
Cognito's SM Series arms are fabricated from high-strength boxed sheet-metal stampings, fully seam-welded using CNC-controlled robotic welding processes that ensure consistent penetration and zero porosity across every joint. The semi-gloss black powder coat is applied electrostatically and oven-cured, providing corrosion resistance that outlasts conventional wet-paint finishes in road-salt and off-road environments. The pre-installed uniball joint operates on a hardened steel race, tolerating the angular misalignment loads generated by 0–3.5 inches of lift without inducing the bind that causes factory rubber-bushed arms to transmit harshness into the cab. The maintenance-free pivot bushings at the frame end are engineered to a specific durometer that balances NVH isolation with the lateral stiffness required to maintain caster and camber stability under braking and cornering loads — a balance the factory arm's rubber bushings cannot sustain once lift height alters the suspension's operating arc.

2015–2020 Ford F-150 XL 4WD
2015–2020 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD
2015–2020 Ford F-150 Lariat 4WD
2015–2020 Ford F-150 King Ranch 4WD
2015–2020 Ford F-150 Platinum 4WD
2016–2020 Ford F-150 Limited 4WD
❌ REQUIREMENTS:
Requires 4WD drivetrain — 2WD F-150 configurations use a different upper arm geometry and are not compatible with this kit.
Requires front alignment immediately post-installation to set caster and camber within Ford specification.
Requires 17-inch or larger wheels with a maximum of 5.0 inches of backspacing when running 35-inch tires to ensure adequate clearance at full droop and full compression.
Requires compatible front shock absorber with sufficient extended length to accommodate increased droop travel — verify shock travel spec before ordering if running a non-Cognito shock.
Installation & Technical Notes
Estimated Install Time: 2-Hour DIY Install (per side, with basic lift equipment and hand tools)
Alignment Required: Yes — front caster and camber must be reset post-installation. Preferred caster spec: +3.5° to +4.5° for lifted applications; camber within ±0.5° of zero.
Torque Specifications: Refer to Cognito's included instruction sheet for final torque values on all pivot hardware — torque all fasteners with the suspension at ride height (not at full droop) to prevent bushing wind-up and premature wear.
ADAS Recalibration: If the vehicle is equipped with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, or lane-keep assist, a front radar/camera recalibration is recommended after any ride height change exceeding 1 inch.
Supporting Modifications: For lifts exceeding 2.5 inches, verify front CV axle boot clearance and consider extended sway bar end links to maintain proper bar geometry.
Wheel & Tire Fitment
Recommended Tire Size: Up to 35x12.50R17 with 2–3.5 inches of front lift
Maximum Tire Size: 35-inch diameter — 37-inch tires require additional trimming and are not recommended without a full suspension system
Wheel Width: 8–9 inches recommended
Maximum Backspacing: 5.0 inches (to prevent inner fender contact at full compression with 35-inch tires)
Recommended Offset: 0mm to +18mm — negative offset wheels increase scrub radius and are not recommended with this arm geometry
Our team is standing by to verify your specific shock travel, wheel backspacing, and lift configuration. Purchase with confidence; we review every build.
