Description
The Obsidian Vision
The factory center link and tie rod assembly on the 2011–2026 Silverado and Sierra 2500HD/3500HD is an axial-loaded ball-and-socket design — adequate for stock applications, but a known weak point under the lateral and articulation loads generated by lifted, leveled, and heavily used trucks. The Cognito Extreme Duty Tie Rod and Center Link Kit replaces the entire factory center link and tie rod assembly with a direct bolt-in alloy steel system that converts the inner tie rod joint from an axial-loaded ball-and-socket to a radial-loaded joint — significantly stronger, with greater articulation than OEM. Made in the USA, OEM-position direct bolt-in, no fabrication required.

Engineering Breakdown
- Replaces the factory center link and tie rod assemblies with a direct bolt-in alloy steel extreme duty system — no modification to the factory steering geometry required, no dropped center link, no relocation brackets — a complete OEM-position replacement that installs with standard hand tools in the factory mounting locations on the 2011–2026 Silverado/Sierra 2500HD/3500HD platform.
- Converts the stock inner tie rod joint from an axial-loaded ball-and-socket design to a radial-loaded joint — a fundamentally stronger joint geometry that transfers steering loads through the joint's radial axis rather than the axial axis, significantly increasing load capacity and resistance to joint deflection under the lateral forces generated by lifted applications, aggressive off-road use, and heavy towing configurations.
- Increases articulation beyond OEM at the inner tie rod joint, allowing greater suspension travel range without binding or joint overload — critical for lifted and leveled 2500HD/3500HD applications where increased suspension droop and compression travel place higher angular demands on the steering tie rod joints than the factory ball-and-socket design was engineered to accommodate.
The alloy steel construction of the center link and tie rods provides a higher tensile strength baseline than the factory components, resisting deformation under the combined lateral, axial, and torsional loads present in aggressive off-road and towing use cases. The radial-loaded inner tie rod joint geometry distributes steering input loads across a larger contact surface area than the factory ball-and-socket, reducing peak stress concentration at the joint interface. This kit is designed for OEM steering position use only — it is not compatible with lift kits that use a dropped center link configuration. If your current lift kit uses a dropped center link, this kit is not the correct application; contact the OFAS team to identify the correct steering upgrade for your specific lift configuration.

❌ REQUIREMENTS & CRITICAL NOTICES:
⚠️ OEM STEERING POSITION ONLY: This kit is designed for use in the OEM center link position only. It is not compatible with lift kits that use a dropped center link configuration. If your lift kit uses a dropped center link, contact the OFAS team to identify the correct steering upgrade for your build before ordering.
Requires front alignment check after installation — verify toe setting is within GM specification after torquing all tie rod ends.
Requires re-torque of all steering fasteners after the first 500 miles post-installation.
Installation & Technical Notes
Estimated Install Time: Direct bolt-in replacement — standard hand tools, torque wrench, and an alignment appointment scheduled immediately after installation.
Alignment Required: Yes — verify and set front toe to GM specification after installation. All tie rod adjustments must be made with the suspension at ride height under load.
OEM Position Requirement: Install in the factory center link mounting location only. Do not use with dropped center link brackets or relocated steering configurations.
Torque Specifications: Refer to Cognito's included instruction sheet for all fastener torque values.
Re-Torque Interval: Re-torque all steering fasteners after the first 500 miles of driving post-installation.
ADAS Note: Lane departure warning and forward collision systems that use front radar or camera calibration are not typically affected by center link and tie rod replacement, but verify with your ADAS calibration provider if your truck is equipped with active safety systems.
Wheel & Tire Fitment
This kit replaces steering components only and does not alter suspension lift height, wheel offset requirements, or tire clearance. Confirm wheel and tire fitment based on your installed lift kit configuration. Contact the OFAS team to verify steering upgrade compatibility with your specific lift kit and wheel/tire setup.
Our team is standing by to verify your specific lift configuration and center link position before you order — especially critical if you are running a dropped center link lift kit. Purchase with confidence; we review every build.
