This is intentional: it allows you to custom powder coat the arms in any finish before assembly, without risking damage to pre-installed bushings and ball joints or stripping a factory powder coat during disassembly. Engineering Breakdown
- Corrects the ball joint angle on the 2020–2026 T1 Silverado/Sierra 2500HD/3500HD for lifted, leveled, and stock replacement applications — the factory UCA ball joint angle is optimized for stock ride height and produces accelerated ball joint wear, reduced droop travel, and degraded ride quality when the suspension is lifted or leveled beyond the factory design envelope. The SM Series geometry corrects this angle at the UCA level without requiring geometry correction elsewhere in the suspension.
- Increases allowable droop travel beyond the factory UCA design — ample droop travel is required for good ride quality, proper suspension component longevity, and full articulation on lifted and leveled applications. The SM Series boxed sheet metal arm geometry provides the droop clearance that the factory stamped steel UCA cannot deliver at elevated ride heights on the T1 2500HD/3500HD platform.
- Delivers the patented Cognito Alpha Ball Joint with maintenance-free pivot bushings in a raw, unassembled Builders Kit format — CNC robot-welded boxed sheet metal construction, added caster correction, all hardware included — allowing custom powder coat application before assembly without the risk of bushing and ball joint damage or finish stripping that comes with disassembling a pre-assembled arm.
The Builders Kit format includes the raw CNC robot-welded boxed sheet metal UCA arms, the patented Cognito Alpha Ball Joint, maintenance-free pivot bushings, crush sleeves, and all mounting hardware — unassembled and unfinished. The builder presses in the bushings and ball joint after applying their custom finish. The SM Series geometry provides corrected ball joint angle and added caster for both stock replacement and lifted/leveled applications on the T1 2500HD/3500HD platform. At 26 lbs, this kit ships standard parcel.

⚠️ BUILDERS KIT — ASSEMBLY REQUIRED: These arms are delivered raw and unassembled. Bushings and ball joints must be pressed in after custom finishing. A hydraulic or arbor press is required for bushing and ball joint installation. Do not attempt to drive components in with a hammer.
⚠️ T1 GENERATION ONLY (2020–2026): Engineered for the T1 generation Silverado/Sierra 2500HD/3500HD only. Not compatible with the K2 generation (2011–2019). For K2 applications, see the applicable Cognito SM Series UCA kit for 2011–2019.
Requires front alignment immediately after installation — caster and camber must be set to GM specification before driving.
Re-torque all UCA mounting fasteners after the first 500 miles post-installation.
Installation & Technical Notes
Estimated Install Time: 1.5-hour DIY install (after custom finishing and assembly) — with a 2-post lift or floor jack and stands, hydraulic or arbor press for bushing/ball joint installation, basic hand tools, and a torque wrench.
Assembly Sequence: Apply custom powder coat or finish to raw arms first. After finish has fully cured, press in pivot bushings and crush sleeves, then press in the Alpha Ball Joint. Do not press components into arms before finishing — this defeats the purpose of the Builders Kit format.
Press Required: A hydraulic or arbor press is required to install pivot bushings and the Alpha Ball Joint. Do not use a hammer or impact tool to drive components into the arm bores.
Alignment Required: Yes — professional front alignment is mandatory immediately after installation. Caster and camber must be set to GM specification.
Torque Specifications: Refer to Cognito's included instruction sheet for all fastener torque values — torque all fasteners with the suspension at ride height under load.
Re-Torque Interval: Re-torque all UCA mounting fasteners after the first 500 miles of driving post-installation.
