Description
Is This for You?
- You're converting your XJ from the factory leaf spring rear suspension to a 4-link coil setup and need to relocate the upper shock mount rearward — the OEM XJ has one shock mount in front of the axle and one behind; the Clayton 4-link coil conversion moves the upper mount to the rear position, and this bracket is the new weld-in upper mount that replaces the forward factory location.
- You're building a custom rear coil conversion on your XJ and need a bar pin style upper shock mount that matches the OEM XJ shock hardware — this bracket is set up for the stock-style XJ rear bar pin shock mount, so your factory-style shocks drop straight in without adapters.
- You want a clean, weld-in bracket that you can finish to match your build — ships bare metal so you can weld, grind, and paint to your spec before installation.
The Result
- Weld-in upper shock mount relocates the rear shock mounting point rearward as required by the Clayton 4-link coil conversion geometry — uses one factory mount plus this new bracket for the complete upper shock mount setup.
- Bar pin style mount matches the stock XJ rear shock upper mount interface — no adapters required for factory-style bar pin shocks.
- Bare metal finish — weld in, grind flush, and paint to your spec for a clean, corrosion-resistant installation.
The COR-2201040 is a weld-in rear upper shock mount bracket designed for the Clayton Off Road 4-link coil conversion on the 1984–2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ. The factory XJ rear suspension uses two upper shock mount locations — one forward of the axle and one behind — to manage axle wrap in the leaf spring setup. When converting to a 4-link coil suspension, the forward upper mount location is no longer geometrically correct for the new shock travel arc. Clayton's 4-link coil conversion relocates the upper shock mount to the rear position, using the existing factory rear mount plus this new weld-in bracket to complete the upper shock mounting setup. The bracket is configured for the stock-style XJ bar pin upper shock mount, allowing factory-style bar pin shocks to install without modification or adapters. Ships bare metal — weld in position, grind welds flush, and apply primer and paint before installation to prevent corrosion at the weld zone. Sold as a single bracket (1 upper mount).

❌ Not compatible with factory leaf spring setup — 4-link coil conversion application only
❌ Does NOT fit eye-style upper shock mounts — bar pin interface only
Installation & Fabrication Notes
- Weld-in installation — professional fabrication required. This bracket must be welded to the XJ chassis. Proper welding equipment and fabrication experience are required.
- This bracket is used in conjunction with the Clayton 4-link coil conversion kit — verify your coil conversion geometry and shock travel arc before determining final bracket position.
- Clean chassis to bare metal in the weld zone — remove paint, undercoating, and rust for full-penetration welds.
- Dry-fit and tack-weld in position before final welding — verify shock travel arc from full droop to full compression before committing to final weld position.
- After welding, grind welds flush and apply weld-through primer and chassis paint to all bare metal surfaces to prevent corrosion.
- Verify bar pin diameter matches your shock's upper mount bore before installation — aftermarket shocks may use a different bar pin diameter than the OEM XJ spec.
Wheel & Tire Fitment
Shock mount bracket — no direct wheel or tire fitment restriction. Shock travel and tire clearance are determined by your 4-link coil conversion geometry and lift height, not by this bracket alone.
Engineering Question: Are you installing this bracket as part of a Clayton 4-link coil conversion kit, or as a standalone bracket for a custom build? If custom, verify your shock's upper mount bar pin diameter and the bracket's position relative to your shock travel arc before final welding — incorrect bracket placement will result in shock bind at full droop or full compression.
