The CNC machining ensures a precise press fit into the tube ID — the insert goes in straight and stays put before welding. Clayton presses these in with a hydraulic ram in production; a 5 lb sledge hammer is sufficient for field or shop installation. After pressing, verify the insert is square to the tube axis before welding — a cocked insert will cause thread misalignment and binding at the rod end. Fully weld the insert after confirming square. Left-hand thread is standard for the adjuster end of an adjustable control arm — it allows the arm length to be adjusted by rotating the tube (one end tightens, one end loosens) without removing either rod end from the vehicle.
