These inserts are used in the fabrication and repair of heavy-duty adjustable control arms and suspension links where a threaded rod end needs to be installed into a larger, heavier-wall square tube. The 2"x2" 1/4" wall tube is a heavier construction than the 1.5"x1.5" 1/8" wall tube — used in applications requiring greater structural strength, such as long arm lower control arms or high-stress link positions. The CNC machining ensures a precise press fit into the tube ID. Clayton presses these in with a hydraulic ram in production; a 5 lb sledge hammer is sufficient for field or shop installation. After pressing, verify the insert is square to the tube axis before welding — a cocked insert will cause thread misalignment and binding at the rod end. Fully weld the insert after confirming square. This SKU is right-hand thread only — if you need left-hand thread for the adjuster end of the same arm, order the appropriate LH SKU separately.
