Two fastener types — different functions: The mix of ASTM F835 flat socket cap screws and SAE J429 Grade 8 hex cap screws reflects different mounting point geometries on the WJ skid plate. Socket cap screws (with their recessed hex drive) fit recessed or tight-clearance positions where a standard hex head would interfere with adjacent components. Hex cap screws are used at standard through-bolt locations with open clearance. Both are 3/8"-16 at 3" length — the head style is the only difference.

Yellow zinc vs. standard zinc: Yellow zinc provides marginally better corrosion resistance than bright (standard) zinc at comparable cost — appropriate for undercarriage fasteners on a trail-driven vehicle without the premium of stainless or black oxide.

Nylon insert lock nuts — single-use rule: Nylon insert lock nuts are designed for single installation. The nylon collar deforms on first torque to grip the fastener thread. Once removed, the collar no longer provides reliable locking force. Do not reinstall removed nylon insert lock nuts — use new ones at every re-assembly.

What Is and Is NOT Included

Included NOT Included
(4) 3/8"-16 x 3" ASTM F835 flat socket cap screws — zinc Transfer case skid plate (COR-4106112 or COR-4106110 — sold separately)
(6) 3/8"-16 x 3" SAE J429 Grade 8 hex cap screws — yellow zinc Allen wrench or hex socket for socket cap screw installation
(16) 3/8" SAE thru-hardened flat washers — yellow zinc Torque wrench
(10) 3/8"-16 NE Grade 8 nylon insert lock nuts — yellow zinc

Critical Compatibility

This hardware kit is purpose-specific to the Clayton WJ transfer case skid plate mounting geometry. The fastener selection — socket cap vs. hex cap, 3" length, 3/8"-16 thread — reflects the specific mounting point requirements of the COR-4106112 skid plate on the redesigned COR-2206210 unibody rails. Substituting hardware store Grade 8 bolts without verifying length and head geometry risks incorrect installation at a structural armor attachment point.

Do not substitute nylon insert lock nuts with standard hex nuts. The nylon insert is required to prevent backing out under the vibration and impact loads generated during off-road use. Standard hex nuts without locking features are not appropriate for structural skid plate fasteners.

Scenario Result
COR-4106112 plate-only installation — hardware needed Confirmed application
COR-4106110 complete kit — hardware already included Do not order — hardware already in the box
Rebuilding existing WJ skid installation — replacement hardware Confirmed application
WK Grand Cherokee hardware needs Does NOT apply — different platform
Reusing removed nylon insert lock nuts Do not reuse — order COR-4106111 for replacements

Installation Notes

Skill level: Beginner for hardware installation — the fabrication complexity is in the skid plate installation, not the fastener installation.

Tools required: Allen wrench or hex socket (for ASTM F835 socket cap screws), standard socket set (for SAE J429 hex cap screws), torque wrench.

Torque specification: 35–40 ft-lb for 3/8" Grade 8 fasteners in steel — confirm against Clayton's installation documentation for your specific mounting configuration before torquing. Do not exceed the published specification.

Washer placement: Use flat washers on both the bolt head side and the nut side at all through-bolt locations. Washers distribute clamping load across the skid plate surface and prevent the fastener head from pulling through or deforming the steel at the mounting hole.

Lock nut re-use rule: Nylon insert lock nuts are single-use. Any time a lock nut is removed, replace it with a new one. Inspect all lock nuts after the first trail run and replace any showing signs of deformation or reduced thread engagement.

Post-installation check: Re-torque all fasteners after the first trail run — new installations can experience minor settling under load that reduces clamp force at the mounting points.

Common Questions

Is this the same hardware that comes with the COR-4106110 complete kit?
Yes — the COR-4106111 is the identical fastener kit included in the COR-4106110 complete assembly. If you already have the complete kit, this hardware is in the box. Order COR-4106111 only if you purchased the plate-only (COR-4106112) or are replacing worn hardware.

Why are there two different screw types in the kit?
Socket cap screws (ASTM F835) are for mounting positions with tight clearance where a standard hex head would interfere. Hex cap screws (SAE J429 Grade 8) are for standard through-bolt positions with open clearance. Both are 3/8"-16 x 3" — the head geometry is the only difference and matches the specific mounting point geometry of the WJ skid plate.

Can I reuse the nylon insert lock nuts if I've removed them?
No. Nylon insert lock nuts are single-use by design. The nylon collar deforms on first torque — once removed, the collar no longer provides reliable locking force. Order COR-4106111 any time lock nuts need to be replaced.

Why not just buy Grade 8 bolts from the hardware store?
You could match the thread pitch and grade — but matching the specific head geometry (socket cap vs. hex cap), length, and finish for each of the 10 mounting positions requires knowing Clayton's specific configuration at each location. The COR-4106111 kit provides the correct components for each position without requiring that investigation.

The Obsidian Take

The COR-4106111 is a $15.00 line item that exists for one reason: if you bought the plate-only (COR-4106112) or need to replace worn hardware on an existing installation, this kit ensures you have the correct Grade 8 fasteners at the correct geometry for every mounting point on the Clayton WJ skid plate without sourcing them individually.

The nylon insert lock nut single-use rule is the one maintenance detail worth noting beyond installation. Anytime the skid plate comes off for access — trail repair, drivetrain service — the lock nuts that come off don't go back on. At $15.00 for a full replacement kit, the correct approach is to keep a spare COR-4106111 in the rig for any field removal situation.

This SKU is for: WJ owners who purchased COR-4106112 (plate only) and need the companion hardware, and WJ owners rebuilding an existing Clayton WJ skid plate installation with worn or missing fasteners.

This SKU is NOT for: Anyone who already has the COR-4106110 complete kit (hardware is already in that box), WK Grand Cherokee owners, or anyone expecting this kit to function as a standalone product without the companion skid plate.
