Complete underbody protection: The transfer case skid is the center component of Clayton's three-piece JK underbody system. For full coverage, pair with engine skid plate (COR-4108912) forward and the appropriate gas tank skid plate (COR-4108202 for 2-door, COR-4108204 for 4-door) rearward. All three interlock for a seamless, continuous undercarriage surface. Clayton offers complete 2-door and 4-door skid system packages (COR-4108002 and COR-4108004) if you prefer to purchase the full system at once.
Critical Compatibility
The factory crossmember is an absolute incompatibility. The transfer case skid plate's mounting geometry is engineered to the Clayton long arm or HD crossmember dimensions. The OEM crossmember has different spatial relationships and mounting point locations — there is no adapter and no modification that makes this plate work on a stock JK crossmember.
Drilling is mandatory. One 1/2" hole must be drilled on the passenger side frame before the passenger-side flange tab can be installed. This cannot be skipped — without the flange tab, the passenger side of the skid plate is unsecured. The flange tab and hardware for this step are included in the kit.
This plate covers the crossmember itself — the most important functional distinction of the transfer case skid versus the engine and gas tank skids. The Clayton JK long arm crossmember is structural custom fabrication with no factory equivalent protection. Without the transfer case skid plate installed, the crossmember is exposed. This plate closes that gap.
System installation sequence matters. In the full three-piece system, install the engine skid plate first, then the transfer case skid plate, then the gas tank skid plate. The transfer case skid's forward and rearward edges interlock with the other two skids — final torque on all three is most accurate when the seams are confirmed flush before tightening.

| JL Wrangler, JT Gladiator, TJ/LJ | Does NOT fit |
| Drilling capability not available | Professional installation required |
| Bare metal arrives with surface rust | Normal — not a defect; prime and paint before installation |
| Running as standalone without engine or gas tank skid | Transfer case and crossmember protected; other areas remain exposed |
Installation Notes
Skill level: Intermediate — drilling required; three-point plus flange tab mounting is more complex than the engine skid's two-point motor mount attachment.
Tools required: Drill with 1/2" bit (mandatory — installation cannot be completed without it), socket set, torque wrench. Primer and paint for bare metal surface treatment.
Bare metal surface prep — required before installation:
Wire brush any surface rust from shipping. Apply primer and paint or preferred undercoating to all bare steel surfaces. Do not install bare metal.
Installation sequence:
- Confirm Clayton COR-2108112 or COR-2108212 crossmember is installed and torqued.
- Apply finish to bare metal before installation.
- Per Clayton's installation instructions, locate and mark the passenger side frame drilling location for the flange tab.
- Drill one 1/2" hole at the marked location.
- Position the transfer case skid plate under the transfer case and crossmember — align with the crossmember, OEM gas tank mount, and stock frame mounting locations.
- Install the included flange tab at the drilled passenger side hole.
- Install all remaining hardware at the crossmember, OEM gas tank mount, and frame mounting locations.
- Torque all hardware to specification — do not fully torque any single point until all points are started; this allows the plate to seat correctly across all mounting interfaces.
- If installing the full three-piece system: confirm the engine skid forward seam and gas tank skid rearward seam are flush before final torque.
Freight pallet option: Contact OFAS before ordering if cosmetic condition on arrival matters. Clayton offers freight pallet shipping at additional cost.
Common Questions
Does this also protect the Clayton crossmember?
Yes — and this is the key functional distinction from the other two skids. Clayton explicitly states this plate "completely covers and protects our JK long arm cross member as well." The crossmember is a precision fabricated component with no factory skid plate. Without this skid plate, the crossmember is fully exposed on the underside.
What's the difference between COR-4108112 and COR-4108114?
Hardware. COR-4108112 is the complete kit — skid plate, flange tab, and all hardware. COR-4108114 is the plate only. For a new installation, order COR-4108112. If you already have the hardware (or verified it's included with your plate-only SKU), order COR-4108114.
Do I really have to drill a hole?
Yes — one 1/2" hole on the passenger side frame is required to install the flange tab that secures the passenger edge of the skid plate. Clayton supplies the flange tab and hardware for this step in the kit. A drill and 1/2" bit are required tools. This step cannot be skipped without leaving the passenger side of the plate unsecured.
Can I install this on a stock JK crossmember?
No. This skid plate's mounting geometry is specific to the Clayton crossmember. The factory crossmember is incompatible — confirmed by Clayton's own product page language and consistent across all retailer listings.
What do I need for complete underbody protection?
Engine skid plate (COR-4108912) forward of this plate, and the appropriate gas tank skid plate rearward — COR-4108202 for 2-door JK, COR-4108204 for 4-door JK Unlimited. All three interlock for seamless coverage. Clayton also offers complete skid system packages: COR-4108002 (2-door) and COR-4108004 (4-door).
The Obsidian Take
The COR-4108112 is the structural centerpiece of the Clayton JK underbody protection system — and the one component that answers a question the engine and gas tank skids don't: what protects the Clayton crossmember itself?
When you install a Clayton long arm or HD crossmember on a JK, you've replaced the factory crossmember with precision fabricated steel that sits exposed on the underside with no factory skid plate above it. A direct rock strike on the crossmember during serious off-road use is a known failure scenario. The transfer case skid plate is the solution — 1/4" CNC-cut steel that covers both the transfer case and the entire crossmember surface in one smooth, continuous plate.
The drilling requirement is the one friction point on this installation. It's a single 1/2" hole in the passenger side frame — a 30-second operation with a cordless drill and the correct bit — but it must happen before the passenger flange tab can go in. If you skip it, the passenger side of a critical protection plate is unsecured. Don't skip it.
For the full build: purchase this alongside the engine skid and gas tank skid simultaneously. Clayton's complete skid packages (COR-4108002 for 2-door, COR-4108004 for 4-door) bundle all three skids at a package price. If you're buying individually, having all three skids on hand before starting the installation makes fitting the interlocking seams significantly easier than trying to torque them sequentially.
This SKU is for: 2007–2018 JK owners (2-door and 4-door) running a Clayton long arm crossmember (COR-2108112) or HD crossmember (COR-2108212) who need a complete transfer case and crossmember protection kit with all hardware included, have drilling capability, and are prepared to finish the bare metal before installation.
This SKU is NOT for: JK owners on the factory crossmember (incompatible), JL, JT, TJ, or LJ owners, anyone without drilling capability who can't hire a shop, or anyone who receives bare metal with cosmetic marks and considers that a defect.
