Skill level: Intermediate to advanced — MIG or TIG welding required. Owner-performed installation is viable with basic welding competency. Professional fabrication shop installation is the correct path if welding is not available on-site.
Tools required: Welder (MIG or TIG), wire brush or grinder for surface prep, grinder for weld cleanup, primer and paint or rattle can for surface finish, basic positioning clamps or magnets.
Installation sequence:
- Safely lift and support the vehicle — front suspension accessible.
- Clean the front face of the OEM front lower control arm brackets on both sides — remove all dirt, grease, undercoating, and loose paint from the weld area. Weld adhesion requires clean bare steel.
- Dry-fit the driver-side mini skid plate against the front face of the OEM bracket — confirm the plate seats flush and squarely.
- Tack weld in position at two or more points — confirm alignment before completing the weld.
- Complete the weld per Clayton's installation instructions — full perimeter or weld as specified.
