Year Range Make Model Configuration Note
2004–2006 Jeep Wrangler LJ Unlimited All Non-Rubicon Trims No body lift required
2005–2006 Jeep Wrangler LJ Unlimited Rubicon 1" body lift required — see Rubicon note

Suspension compatibility — all three confirmed:

  • Stock LJ Unlimited — fits without modification
  • Short arm lift — fits without modification
  • Clayton long arm kit — fits without crossmember restriction

Does NOT fit:

  • Jeep Wrangler TJ (2-door, 1997–2006) — different underbody geometry; see COR-4105100 for the TJ 2-piece skid plate
  • Jeep Wrangler JK (2007–2018) — different underbody architecture; see the JK skid plate system
  • Jeep Wrangler JL, JT Gladiator — different platforms
  • Rubicon LJ without a 1" body lift installed — will not fit without the body lift

Rubicon note: The LJ Rubicon requires a 1" body lift for this skid plate to fit correctly. Non-Rubicon LJ Unlimited models (Sport, Sahara, X) do not require a body lift. Confirm your trim before ordering. If running a Rubicon, also plan for the optional Clayton compressor mount to properly relocate the OEM air compressor.

2-piece design — why it matters: The 3/16" cradle bolts permanently to the OEM underbody location and picks up the transmission mount — adding structural rigidity to the skid system while creating a stable platform. The 1/4" flat skid plate attaches to the cradle via countersunk Allen head bolts and can be removed independently. For drivetrain service — transmission, transfer case, driveshafts — you remove only the flat skid plate, leaving the cradle and its mounting hardware undisturbed. This eliminates the full skid plate removal ordeal that single-piece skid plates require for every underbody service event.

Clearance gain in context: The stock LJ skid plate hangs lower than necessary — the factory unit was designed around crash and debris clearance standards, not trail use. Clayton's 2-piece system gains approximately 1.5 inches of additional ground clearance over stock, which translates directly to fewer hung-up events on trail obstacles.

What Is and Is NOT Included

Included NOT Included
3/16" laser-cut cradle Optional Clayton compressor mount (recommended for Rubicon; sold separately)
1/4" flat skid plate 1" body lift kit (required for Rubicon; sold separately)
Countersunk Allen head bolts for flat skid-to-cradle attachment Primer, paint, or coating for bare metal surface treatment
Full mounting hardware for cradle installation Engine / oil pan skid plate (sold separately — designed as an add-on to this 2-piece system)

Engine oil pan skid plate note: Clayton produces an oil pan skid plate designed specifically to work with this LJ 2-piece system. It attaches via brackets to the front and rear of this cradle system. If you want full front-to-rear underbody coverage on your LJ, add the companion oil pan skid plate alongside this kit. No drain hole is cut in the oil pan skid — Clayton's rationale is that the drain hole weakens the plate and creates a potential hang-up point; many owners drill their own 3–4" access hole or simply drop the oil pan skid section by removing its 7 bolts for oil changes.

Critical Compatibility

This is the most straightforward compatibility profile in the Clayton JK/LJ skid plate catalog. Unlike every JK skid plate in this series — which requires a specific Clayton crossmember — the COR-4107100 fits any LJ Unlimited regardless of suspension configuration. Stock crossmember, short arm lift, Clayton long arm kit — all confirmed. There is no crossmember requirement and no restriction based on suspension type.

The Rubicon body lift is the only conditional requirement. Non-Rubicon LJ Unlimited models (Sport, Sahara, X) install this skid plate without any body lift. The Rubicon's compressor location creates a physical conflict that the 1" body lift resolves. If your LJ is a non-Rubicon, body lift is not required. If you're unsure of your trim, check the door jamb sticker or VIN decode — the Rubicon designation will be listed explicitly.

Weight is the primary logistics consideration. At 130 lb, this is the heaviest single item in this entire catalog run. A 130 lb bare metal steel plate arriving via standard box shipping will accumulate cosmetic marks in transit. Clayton explicitly recommends freight pallet shipping to minimize cosmetic damage. Contact OFAS before ordering to arrange pallet shipping if surface condition on arrival matters.

Installation Notes

Skill level: Beginner to intermediate — bolt-on installation, no cutting or welding. However, at 130 lb, this is a two-person installation minimum and appropriate lifting equipment is required.

Tools required: Allen head wrench or hex socket set (countersunk Allen head bolts on the flat skid), standard socket set, torque wrench. Drill and 3–4" hole saw if adding an oil drain access hole (optional — not included, not recommended by Clayton but acceptable per owner practice).

Two-person minimum: At 130 lb, attempting a solo installation risks personal injury and damage to the plate and your LJ's underbody. A second person and a floor jack or transmission jack for supporting the plate during positioning are strongly recommended.

Rubicon installation sequence:

  1. Install 1" body lift before proceeding — do not attempt to install this skid plate on a Rubicon without the body lift in place.
  2. If applicable, install the optional Clayton compressor mount to relocate the OEM air compressor before the skid plate goes in.
  3. Proceed with standard installation per Clayton's instructions.

Standard installation sequence:

  1. Wire brush any surface rust from shipping. Apply primer and preferred paint or undercoating to all bare steel surfaces before installation.
  2. Install the 3/16" cradle to the OEM underbody location, capturing the transmission mount, per Clayton's installation instructions. Torque to specification.
  3. With the cradle secured, position the 1/4" flat skid plate against the cradle underside. Use a floor jack under the plate to assist with alignment.
  4. Install the countersunk Allen head bolts through the flat skid plate into the cradle. Torque to specification.

Drivetrain service procedure: Remove the countersunk Allen head bolts to drop the flat skid plate from the cradle. The cradle remains in place. All transmission, transfer case, driveshaft, and drivetrain service proceeds normally with only the flat skid removed. Reinstall the flat skid and torque to spec when service is complete.

Freight pallet option: Strongly recommended at 130 lb. Contact OFAS before ordering to arrange freight pallet shipping and minimize cosmetic marks during transit.

Common Questions

Does this fit my TJ Wrangler?
No — the LJ Unlimited (4-door) and TJ (2-door) have different underbody geometry and different skid plate dimensions. The TJ version is COR-4105100 at a lower price (lighter truck, smaller plate). COR-4107100 is LJ Unlimited only.

My LJ is a Rubicon — do I need the body lift first?
Yes — the 1" body lift must be installed before this skid plate can fit a Rubicon LJ. Also plan for the optional Clayton compressor mount to relocate the OEM air compressor that occupies space the skid plate needs on the Rubicon.

What's the optional compressor mount for?
The Rubicon LJ has an OEM air compressor mounted in a position that conflicts with this skid plate. The Clayton compressor mount relocates it to the back of the 1/4" skid plate. Non-Rubicon models don't have this compressor, so the mount is Rubicon-specific.

Why is there no oil drain access hole?
Clayton explicitly states on their product and companion oil pan skid pages that no drain hole is cut because it weakens the plate and creates a potential hang-up surface. The design intent is to remove the flat skid plate for oil changes (7 bolts) or to have a shop drill a 3–4" access hole if preferred. Either approach is acceptable.

At 130 lbs, can one person install this?
No — this is a two-person minimum installation with floor jack assistance for the flat skid plate positioning step. Attempting a solo installation risks injury and misalignment.

Why does this fit long arm, short arm, and stock when the JK skid plates require a Clayton crossmember?
Different design philosophy. The LJ 2-piece system uses a cradle that mounts to OEM underbody locations regardless of crossmember configuration. It doesn't rely on or interact with the crossmember for its mounting interface — which is why it works universally across suspension configurations.

The Obsidian Take

The COR-4107100 is the definitive underbody protection solution for the LJ Unlimited — and one of the most thoughtfully engineered skid plates in the entire Clayton catalog. The 2-piece cradle-and-skid design solves the problem that every single-piece skid plate owner on the LJ platform deals with eventually: dropping the entire skid every time you need to service anything underneath the truck.

At 130 lb, this plate is not a weekend warrior item. It is serious steel for a truck being wheeled seriously. The 1.5" of clearance gained over the stock LJ skid plate is the number that matters in the field — that's 1.5" less of a reason to hang up on trail obstacles, 1.5" more rock face you clear instead of dig into.

The universal suspension compatibility is the practical advantage over the JK skid plate system in this catalog. Every JK skid plate requires a Clayton crossmember — this LJ plate requires nothing except the LJ itself (plus a body lift for Rubicon owners). If you're running a stock LJ, a short arm lift, or a full Clayton long arm setup, the same plate works without modification.

The freight pallet conversation is worth having before you order. $899.00 worth of 1/4" steel plate arriving with cosmetic transit damage that cannot be returned is an avoidable situation. Pallet shipping is available — contact OFAS and arrange it before the order ships if cosmetic condition matters to you.

This SKU is for: 2004–2006 LJ Unlimited owners across all trims and all suspension configurations who want maximum bolt-on underbody protection with serviceable cradle design, approximately 1.5" of clearance gain over stock, and a lifetime companion plate to the truck regardless of how the suspension evolves.

This SKU is NOT for: TJ 2-door owners (order COR-4105100), JK or JL owners (different systems), Rubicon LJ owners who haven't installed a 1" body lift, or anyone expecting standard box shipping on a 130 lb bare metal steel plate to arrive in pristine cosmetic condition.
