Does NOT Fit

Exclusion Reason
Jeep Wrangler JK (2007–2018) Different front axle stabilizer mount geometry — this bracket is designed specifically for the JL/JT axle mount
Jeep Wrangler TJ / YJ / CJ Different front axle designs — not applicable
Vehicles with aftermarket tie rods The included tie rod stabilizer mount is designed for the factory JL/JT tie rod diameter and mount style. Aftermarket tie rods require separate mounting brackets specific to their diameter. The raised double-shear axle mount can still be used, but the tie rod mount must be sourced separately.
Buyers expecting the stabilizer to be included This is a relocation bracket kit only. Your existing factory or aftermarket stabilizer mounts to this kit — a new stabilizer is not included.
Factory tie rod compatibility with non-standard axle mounts Bracket clamps to the factory axle mount — trucks with heavily modified front axle assemblies that have removed or altered the factory bracket may require additional fitment confirmation

Critical Compatibility

Condition Interaction Action Required
Factory tie rod requirement The included tie rod stabilizer mount is designed specifically for the factory JL/JT tie rod. Running an aftermarket tie rod means this mount cannot be used as-is — only the axle-side double-shear bracket applies. Confirm whether your JL or JT has a factory or aftermarket tie rod before ordering.
Stabilizer eye diameter and pin size The double-shear axle mount accepts factory and most aftermarket stabilizers, but eye diameter and pin size must be compatible. Clayton states "most aftermarket stabilizers" are compatible — confirm your specific stabilizer's axle-end dimensions before installation. Verify your stabilizer's axle-end eye diameter and pin size match the double-shear mount before ordering.
Track bar bolt replacement The kit includes an upgraded Grade 8 flanged track bar bolt and top-lock nut to replace the OEM track bar bolt at the axle end. The flanged nut contacts the axle body directly, preventing rotation. The top-lock nut uses deformed thread zones at the crown for additional retention and will not thread to final position by hand. Install included track bar bolt and top-lock nut using a calibrated torque wrench to 146 ft-lbs — do not substitute the OEM bolt.
Axle bracket surface preparation The double-shear bracket clamps to the factory axle bracket. Proper clamp load requires a clean contact surface — dirt, rust, and undercoating must be removed before installation. Clean the factory axle bracket contact surface before installing the double-shear bracket.
Lift height and stabilizer length Relocating the stabilizer above the tie rod changes its mounting position. Verify that your stabilizer's length and travel range are appropriate for your current lift height after installation. Confirm stabilizer length and travel compatibility with your lift height before finalizing installation.

Installation Notes

Skill level: Intermediate. One 3/8" hole must be drilled in the factory axle bracket — this is the only permanent modification required. All other steps are bolt-on. A basic tool set, torque wrench, and 3/8" drill bit are the primary requirements.

Step-by-step installation summary:

  1. Clean the factory axle bracket contact surface — remove dirt, rust, and undercoating for proper clamp load on the double-shear bracket.
  2. Drill one 3/8" hole in the factory axle bracket at Clayton's specified location per installation instructions.
  3. Clamp the double-shear axle bracket to the factory bracket using the included Grade 8 hardware — torque all bracket bolts to Clayton's specified values.
  4. Install the included Grade 8 flanged track bar bolt and top-lock nut in place of the OEM track bar bolt at the axle end. Start by hand to confirm thread engagement — this nut will not thread to final position by hand. Torque to 146 ft-lbs with a calibrated torque wrench.
  5. Mount your stabilizer to the raised double-shear bracket at the axle end and to the new tie rod mount at the tie rod end (factory tie rod only).
  6. Verify track bar bolt head is accessible after bracket installation — confirm clearance before final torque.
  7. Verify stabilizer length and travel range are appropriate for your lift height before returning to the trail.

Common Questions

Why does the factory JL/JT steering stabilizer position cause problems off-road?
The factory JL/JT stabilizer mounts below the tie rod on the axle side. In that position it is the lowest-hanging component in the steering system and takes direct rock contact on technical terrain — ledges, boulder fields, and trail obstacles that pass harmlessly under the tie rod will hit the stabilizer. This kit raises the stabilizer above the tie rod, putting the tie rod between the stabilizer and the obstacle. The tie rod is already there regardless — the relocation simply moves the more vulnerable stabilizer above it.

Do I need to drill into the axle?
One 3/8" hole must be drilled into the factory axle bracket (not the axle housing itself) during installation. This is the only permanent modification required. The double-shear bracket then clamps to the factory bracket using the drilled hole and Grade 8 hardware.

Why does the kit include a new track bar bolt?
The bracket is installed around the same axle area as the track bar bolt. Clayton engineered the bracket geometry to preserve access to the track bar bolt head — you can inspect and retorque the track bar without removing this bracket. The included Grade 8 flanged bolt and top-lock nut replace the OEM track bar bolt at the same time as the bracket installation. The flanged nut contacts the axle body directly to prevent rotation; the deformed thread zones in the top-lock nut resist loosening under vibration. Torque to 146 ft-lbs.

I have an aftermarket tie rod. Can I still use this kit?
Partially. The raised double-shear axle mount can still be used. The included tie rod mount is designed for the factory JL/JT tie rod diameter — if your tie rod is aftermarket, the included mount likely will not fit your tie rod's diameter. Source a compatible tie rod bracket separately for your specific aftermarket tie rod. Text (469) 407-7538 if you need help identifying the right companion bracket.

Does this kit include a steering stabilizer?
No — this is a relocation bracket kit only. Your existing factory or aftermarket stabilizer mounts to this kit. Verify your stabilizer's axle-end eye diameter and pin size are compatible with the double-shear mount before ordering.

The Obsidian Take

This kit is for the JL Wrangler or Gladiator JT owner who runs technical terrain and has either already destroyed a steering stabilizer on a rock or plans to before the end of the season. The factory mount position puts the stabilizer below the tie rod — the lowest contact point in the steering system — and on anything technical that becomes a recurring replacement expense. Moving it above the tie rod solves the problem at the source for 2 lb and the cost of one drill hole.

The track bar bolt access detail is not marketing language — it is the specific design feature that separates this bracket from a simpler relocation. Many brackets in this category require removing the stabilizer to retorque the track bar bolt. Clayton designed the clearance in specifically so you don't have to. For any JL or JT owner who retorques their front-end hardware on a regular inspection schedule, that matters.

It is not for the JK owner — the axle geometry is different. It is not for any truck running an aftermarket tie rod without sourcing a compatible tie rod mount separately. And it is not a complete solution for stabilizers that are already damaged — relocate the bracket after replacing a worn stabilizer, not before confirming the stabilizer itself is in serviceable condition.
