What Is and Is NOT Included

Note on no-drill kits: Bedslide's factory no-drill mount kits are designed for specific current-generation trucks (Colorado/Canyon, Tacoma 2016–2019, Ford F-150). No no-drill kit is confirmed for the S10, first-gen Tacoma, or 1998–2014 Ranger. Standard bolt-in installation applies to all three vehicles on this listing.

Critical Compatibility

This SKU covers three legacy trucks — each with its own fitment nuances.

Chevy S10 / GMC Sonoma (1982–2004): Two generations were built, but the short bed interior width and length remained compatible across production. The S10 was discontinued after 2004 and replaced by the Colorado. If you have a post-2004 GM compact, you do not have an S10 — you need the 10-7041-CLS or 10-7142-CLS.

Ford Ranger (1998–2014): Confirmed fitment for this date range in the short-bed configuration. The fourth-generation Ranger (2019+) is a completely different, larger platform built on the global Ranger architecture. Fitment for the new-gen Ranger is not confirmed for the 70x38 platform.

Toyota Tacoma (1995–2004 only): This is the highest-risk fitment on this listing. The Tacoma underwent a major redesign in 2005 that widened the bed interior. The 70x38 platform is sized for the narrower first-generation bed. Buyers with a 2005+ Tacoma need a different SKU. If you're unsure of your generation, look at the year — 2004 and older is first gen; 2005 and newer is second or third gen.

Installation Notes

Skill level: Beginner to intermediate. Standard hand tools. No drilling required on most applications.

Estimated time: 1 hour.

Tools required: Basic socket set and wrench. No specialized tools needed.

Bed liner warning: Bedslide does not recommend installation over spray-in or drop-in bed liners. Liner thickness varies by brand and can create mounting inconsistency. Plan on liner removal before installation or contact us before ordering.

No-drill option: Not available for S10, 1998–2014 Ranger, or first-gen Tacoma. Standard bolt-in using existing bed hardware is the confirmed installation method for all three vehicles on this listing.

Two-person installation: Strongly recommended. The platform is heavy and unwieldy to position alone in a compact truck bed. Alignment is significantly easier with a second person.

Clearance check: Confirm at least 4.5 inches of vertical clearance if installing under a tonneau cover or truck cap. Measure before purchasing your cover or the Bedslide — whichever comes second.

Freight notice: This unit ships LTL freight. Residential delivery is included. OFAS will contact you after order placement to coordinate delivery scheduling. Inspect for shipping damage before signing the delivery receipt — note any damage on the bill of lading before accepting.

Common Questions

Does this fit my 2008 Toyota Tacoma?
No. The 10-7038-CLS is sized for the first-generation Tacoma (1995–2004). The 2005+ Tacoma uses a wider bed interior dimension that requires a different Bedslide size. Text (469) 407-7538 and we'll identify the correct SKU for your truck.

Does this fit a new Ford Ranger (2019+)?
Not confirmed. The 2019+ Ranger is a completely different, larger platform than the 1998–2014 Ranger this SKU is designed for. Contact us before ordering if you have a current-gen Ranger.

Does the S10 short bed and the Ranger short bed use the same Bedslide?
Yes — both fit the 70x38 platform when configured with the short bed. The 38" width accommodates the narrower interior of compact-era trucks that both the S10 and 1998–2014 Ranger share.

Does the slide pull all the way out past the tailgate?
No. The Classic tier operates at 75% (¾) extension. The platform extends well past the midpoint of your bed and allows you to reach everything from beside the tailgate — but it does not travel fully past the tailgate plane. For full-extension capability, the Bedslide 1500 or HD tier is required.

Can I install this over my spray-in liner?
Not recommended. Bedslide explicitly advises against installation over liners because liner thickness varies and can compromise alignment and mounting stability. Plan on liner removal.

My S10 has a long bed — does this fit?
No. The 70" platform is sized for the short bed configuration. A long-bed S10 requires a different SKU.

The Obsidian Take

The 10-7038-CLS is purpose-built for the compact truck segment that defined the 1990s and early 2000s — the S10, the Ranger, and the first-gen Tacoma. If you own any of these trucks and still work it hard, this is the correct Classic-tier platform for your bed dimensions. The 38" width is the distinguishing spec: it's narrower than every other Bedslide in the Colorado/Canyon/Frontier/modern Tacoma lineup, because the beds on these legacy compacts were simply narrower.

The important context here is that all three vehicles are out of production. That means this SKU exists almost exclusively for buyers who already own and are actively using these trucks — not for someone shopping a new purchase. If you're doing regular bed work with an S10, a Ranger, or a first-gen Tacoma and you're still climbing in and out, this product eliminates that problem permanently for around the cost of a good set of tires.

The 75% extension delivers full functional reach without requiring full-extension capability. For compact trucks that typically carry tools, smaller loads, and recreational equipment rather than full-pallet freight, 75% is the right extension for the use case.

This SKU is for: Owners of 1982–2004 Chevy S10 / GMC Sonoma, 1998–2014 Ford Ranger, or 1995–2004 Toyota Tacoma with the short bed who need a permanent, bolt-in cargo access platform in silver finish.
