Fitment, Shipping & Product Support

A complete 6-inch suspension lift kit engineered for the 2003–2007 Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 diesel 4WD. Diesel-specific progressive rate Pro-Ride coil springs provide the 6-inch front lift. BDS-engineered new lower control arms are longer than stock to rotate the axle for proper alignment, paired with a relocation mounting bracket to flatten the upper control arm angle and maintain factory handling characteristics. Forged drop pitman arm and track bar bracket correct steering geometry. The rear uses progressive rate multi-leaf springs for a 4-inch rear lift, with extended U-bolts. This is the leaf spring rear option on the 3-1/2 inch axle configuration. FOX 2.0 Performance Series shocks front and rear. Clears up to 36-inch tires.

Before ordering: This kit fits 2003–2007 Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 diesel 4WD. You must measure your rear axle tube diameter before ordering — this kit is configured for the 3-1/2 inch axle. Two axle diameters exist on this generation Ram and the wrong selection results in an incompatible rear kit. This kit is diesel-specific — gas engine models are not supported. If your truck's steering gear box has been replaced and the sector shaft diameter measures approximately 1-1/2 to 1-5/8 inches, you must add BDS082404 to your kit. Welding equipment, a cut-off tool, and a grinder/sanding disc are required specialty tools — confirm your installer has these before scheduling. If driveline vibration occurs after installation, transfer case drop kits are available separately (see Critical Compatibility).

Required separately (conditional):

  • BDS082404 — Required if steering gear box has been replaced and sector shaft diameter is approximately 1-1/2 to 1-5/8 inches
  • Transfer case drop kit (if driveline vibration occurs): 122602 (03–05 Diesel Auto), 122605 (06–08 Diesel Auto), or 122606 (03–13 Diesel Auto with OE mount PN 52121938AA). Auto transmission only. Alternatively, T-case index kits 122801 (auto) or 122802 (manual).

Installation Notes

Professional installation is strongly recommended. This kit is rated Moderate with an estimated installation time of 6–8 hours. Specialty tools required: grinder/sanding disc, cut-off tool, pitman arm puller, and welding equipment. Confirm your installer has all required tools before scheduling.

Verify before beginning:

  • Rear axle tube diameter confirmed as 3-1/2 inch
  • Steering gear box replacement and sector shaft diameter (if replaced, measure sector shaft — if 1-1/2 to 1-5/8 inches, add BDS082404)
  • Transmission and transfer case type (relevant to T-case drop kit selection if needed)
  • Installer has welding equipment, cut-off tool, and grinder
  • ADAS recalibration appointment scheduled

Professional alignment is required after installation. Refer to the current BDS Suspension installation instructions for SKU BDS236FS for complete procedures, torque specifications, and component-specific instructions.

The Obsidian Take

The BDS236FS brings the same engineering approach as BDS6673FS to the 2003–2007 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 diesel platform — 6 inches of front lift on diesel-specific Pro-Ride coil springs with BDS-engineered longer lower control arms for correct axle rotation, and 4 inches of rear lift via progressive rate multi-leaf springs that control axle wrap and maintain factory payload ratings. FOX 2.0 Performance Series shocks are application-tuned throughout. There are two pre-order checks specific to this older generation that are easy to miss: the rear axle diameter (3-1/2 inch for this kit), and the sector shaft diameter if the steering gear box has ever been replaced. The sector shaft check is particularly important on older trucks that may have been previously serviced — a replaced gear box with a 1-1/2 to 1-5/8 inch sector shaft requires BDS082404. Measure both before ordering.

This Product Is For You If

  • You own a 2003–2007 Dodge Ram 2500 or Ram 3500 diesel 4WD with a confirmed 3-1/2 inch rear axle.
  • Your truck's steering gear box is factory original, or if replaced, the sector shaft diameter is not in the 1-1/2 to 1-5/8 inch range (or you will add BDS082404).
  • You want the leaf spring rear option for reduced axle wrap, improved stability, and maintained factory payload ratings over a block configuration.
  • You want 6 inches of front lift and 4 inches of rear lift with FOX 2.0 Performance Series shocks.
  • You want up to 36-inch tire clearance.
  • Your installer has welding equipment, a cut-off tool, and a grinder.

This Product Is Not For You If

  • You have not measured your rear axle tube diameter — wrong axle selection produces an incompatible kit.
  • Your truck has a replaced steering gear box with a sector shaft diameter of approximately 1-1/2 to 1-5/8 inches and you have not added BDS082404.
  • Your Ram has a gas engine.
  • Your Ram is 2WD.
  • Your installer does not have welding equipment or a cut-off tool.
  • You want the block rear option — see the block kit variant.
  • You want a 4-inch axle rear configuration — see the 4-inch axle variant.
  • You want NX2 Nitro Series shocks — see the NX2 variant.
  • You want FOX 2.5 Performance Elite Series shocks — see the FOX 2.5 variant.

Common Questions

Why do I need to measure my rear axle before ordering?
BDS confirms that two different rear axle tube diameters exist on this generation Ram. Ordering the wrong axle configuration produces an incompatible rear kit. Use a tape measure on the axle tube and confirm before placing your order.

What is the sector shaft check and why does it matter?
If the steering gear box on your truck has been replaced at any point, the replacement unit may have a different sector shaft diameter. If the sector shaft measures approximately 1-1/2 to 1-5/8 inches, the standard pitman arm will not fit correctly — BDS082404 is required. Inspect your sector shaft before ordering.

Why choose leaf springs over blocks for the rear?
Leaf springs eliminate axle wrap, create a more controlled and stable feel, maintain factory payload weight ratings, and use a multi-leaf progressive design for a smoother ride. Block kits are simpler to install but do not address axle wrap.

What if I have driveline vibration after installation?
Transfer case drop kits are available separately: 122602 (03–05 Diesel Auto), 122605 (06–08 Diesel Auto), 122606 (03–13 Diesel Auto with OE mount PN 52121938AA). All automatic transmission only. T-case index kits 122801 (auto) or 122802 (manual) are also available.

Does this kit fit the gas Ram 2500 or 3500?
No. The Pro-Ride coil springs are diesel-specific. Gas engine models are not supported.

Welding equipment is listed as a required specialty tool — what is it used for?
BDS lists welding equipment alongside a cut-off tool and grinder as required specialty tools for this installation. Confirm the specific welding requirement with your installer and the BDS installation instructions before scheduling.

Does ADAS need to be recalibrated after installation?
Yes. This kit changes vehicle ride height and suspension geometry. All ADAS sensors require professional recalibration. All recalibration costs are the owner's responsibility.
