Critical Compatibility

Configuration Compatibility
2020–2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty DRW 4WD Diesel ✅ Correct application
2020–2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty DRW 4WD Gas ❌ Wrong kit — order SKU 1997FPE
2020–2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty SRW 4WD ❌ Not compatible — different platform configuration
2020–2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty 2WD ❌ Not compatible — 4WD only
2023 and newer Ford F-350 Super Duty ❌ Different specifications — kit does not apply
2019 and earlier Ford F-350 Super Duty ❌ Different platform — kit does not apply
Ford F-250 Super Duty — any year ❌ Not compatible — different platform
Ford F-150 — any year ❌ Not compatible

DRW vs. SRW and diesel vs. gas are both hard fitment splits on this platform. The 4-link geometry, coil-over spring rate, and damping valving in SKU 1987FPE are engineered specifically for the F-350 DRW front axle loads and 6.7L Power Stroke diesel weight distribution. Neither variable is interchangeable with the gas application or SRW configuration. Contact OFAS at (469) 407-7538 before ordering if you need help confirming your wheel configuration or engine.

Installation Notes

Skill Level: Advanced. A 6-inch 4-link coil-over conversion on a Super Duty DRW diesel platform is one of the most involved front suspension jobs in the heavy-duty truck segment. This kit replaces the factory radius arm and coil spring setup entirely with a true 4-link system. A qualified suspension shop with documented Super Duty DRW experience is required. Do not attempt DIY installation.

Required Tools:

  • Full hydraulic lift rated for F-350 DRW diesel weight
  • Coil-over compression tool
  • Torque wrench
  • Full socket and wrench set
  • Alignment equipment or alignment shop scheduled before driving post-install

Alignment: Full front-end alignment is mandatory after installation. Do not operate the vehicle on public roads before alignment is completed.

Driveline Inspection: At 6 inches of lift, driveshaft angles change significantly from factory. U-joints operating outside their designed angle range wear rapidly and can fail under diesel towing load. Inspect driveshaft angles and U-joint operating angles after installation — driveshaft modification may be required depending on your specific truck's configuration. Confirm with your installer before the job begins. This inspection is not optional on a diesel DRW platform at 6-inch lift.

Reservoir Routing: Follow BDS and FOX installation instructions for FOX 2.5 PE external reservoir placement. Avoid pinch points and heat sources. Incorrect routing causes premature coil-over failure.

Break-In Period: Allow FOX 2.5 PE coil-overs to complete the FOX-recommended break-in period before aggressive off-road use or sustained heavy towing.

Torque Specs: Follow BDS-specified torque values included in the installation instructions. Do not substitute generic torque values on a DRW diesel platform under towing and hauling loads.

The Obsidian Take

SKU 1987FPE is the most comprehensive BDS front suspension upgrade available for the 2020–2022 F-350 Super Duty DRW diesel. This is not a lift kit — it is a suspension system conversion. The factory radius arm and coil spring setup is replaced entirely with a true 4-link coil-over system. The result is corrected geometry at 6-inch lift, eliminated radius arm bind that degrades factory suspension under articulation, improved front axle articulation, and FOX 2.5 PE damping with external reservoir tuned specifically for the 6.7L Power Stroke's front-end weight distribution.

The FOX 2.5 PE coil-over integrates spring and damper into a single unit — replacing both the factory coil spring and shock simultaneously. The 2.5-inch body carries greater oil volume than a standard shock, and the external reservoir adds additional fluid capacity for sustained thermal management under diesel towing loads. Advanced valving delivers consistent damping across a wide range of speeds and terrain inputs — not just on the freeway empty, but loaded and pulling.

The comparison between 1987FPE and 1997FPE is lift height and engine. SKU 1997FPE delivers 4 inches of front lift on the F-350 DRW gas platform. SKU 1987FPE delivers 6 inches on the DRW diesel platform. Both run FOX 2.5 PE and true 4-link conversion geometry. The diesel adds the weight and towing load requirements that make the diesel-tuned coil-over spring rate and damping valving a hard requirement — not a preference.

This kit is for you if: You own a 2020–2022 F-350 Super Duty DRW 4WD diesel and want 6 inches of front lift with a complete 4-link coil-over conversion — corrected geometry, eliminated radius arm bind, improved articulation, and FOX 2.5 PE damping tuned for a working diesel DRW platform.

This kit is not for you if: Your F-350 is gas — order SKU 1997FPE. Your F-350 is SRW — contact OFAS for the correct SRW kit. Your F-350 is 2WD, a 2019 or earlier, a 2023 or newer, an F-250, or an F-150. You want 4 inches instead of 6 — contact OFAS to identify the correct SKU for your configuration. Confirm your engine, wheel configuration, and year before ordering — the kit is non-returnable once installed.

Common Questions

What is the difference between SKU 1987FPE and SKU 1997FPE?
Both kits are 4-link coil-over conversions for the 2020–2022 F-350 Super Duty DRW 4WD using FOX 2.5 Performance Elite. The differences are lift height and engine — 1987FPE delivers 6 inches on the DRW diesel platform and 1997FPE delivers 4 inches on the DRW gas platform. Diesel-tuned coil-overs in 1987FPE are spring-rated and valved for the 6.7L Power Stroke's front-end weight. These kits are not interchangeable. Call (469) 407-7538 to confirm which applies to your truck.

Why does a 4-link conversion matter over a standard radius arm lift on the F-350?
The factory F-350 Super Duty front suspension uses a radius arm design. Under significant lift, radius arms introduce caster deviation and bushing bind that degrades geometry consistency, increases tire wear, and reduces articulation. A true 4-link setup replaces the radius arm geometry entirely — correcting caster at the lifted height, eliminating bind under articulation, and allowing the suspension to move through its range of motion without the geometric compromises inherent in a lifted radius arm system. At 6 inches of lift on a DRW diesel platform used for towing, that geometry correction is not a luxury — it is the foundation of the build.

Does the diesel vs. gas distinction actually affect the coil-overs?
Yes. The 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine carries significantly more front-end weight than the gas engine. Coil-over spring rate must be tuned for the specific front axle weight it supports. A gas-tuned spring rate under a diesel sags and produces incorrect ride height and compromised geometry under load. Diesel-tuned springs under a gas engine produce excessive spring rate and harsh ride. The spring and damping tune is not interchangeable between engine applications — this is why 1987FPE and 1997FPE are separate SKUs.

Is the driveline inspection required at 6-inch lift?
Yes. At 6 inches of lift on a DRW diesel platform, driveshaft angles change significantly from factory. U-joints operating outside their designed range under diesel towing load wear rapidly and can fail at highway speed. The inspection determines whether driveshaft modification is required for your specific truck's configuration. It is not optional.

Does this fit my 2023 F-350?
No. The 2023 F-350 Super Duty has different specifications — this kit does not apply. Contact OFAS at (469) 407-7538 to confirm the correct kit for a 2023 model year.

Does this kit include rear lift?
No. SKU 1987FPE is a front suspension conversion only. Rear lift components are not included.

What warranty covers this kit?
BDS suspension components are covered by the BDS No-Fine-Print Warranty. FOX 2.5 Performance Elite coil-overs carry a FOX 1-year limited warranty.
