Description
Performance that matches the build. Finish that proves it.
You lifted this Ram HD with intention. The wheels, the tires, the suspension — every component was chosen because it belongs on this build. The OEM tie rod is stamped steel. It flexes under load, introduces bump steer at lift height, and wears prematurely under the lateral load of bigger tires. It doesn't belong on a build at this level.
The Apex Chassis KIT386-POL is the correction. A 1.75" solid 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum tie rod with overbuilt 1.25" threaded shanks, ProLock high-misalignment ends, and a raw mirror-polished finish — engineered specifically for the 2014–2026 Ram 2500 and 2013–2026 Ram 3500 4WD platform at 2–6" of lift. Gas and 6.7L Cummins diesel. It performs like the KIT386-STL. It looks like the rest of your build.

Why 1.75" and not 2": The clearance window around the track bar brackets and front differential housing on the 2014+ Ram frame is significantly tighter than the Ford platform. A 2" bar scrapes and binds under full steering lock cycles on the Ram. The 1.75" 7075-T6 spec delivers the exact clearance envelope the Ram platform requires while providing full structural yield strength and the flex memory to absorb harsh highway vibration without bending permanent flat spots like mild steel.
Why the 1.25" thread shanks matter: Factory Ram tie rod ends use thin 7/8" threaded shanks that flex and fatigue under the lateral strain of heavy wheel offsets — the deflection that allows the Ram death wobble feedback loop to trigger. Apex replaced them with 1.25" ultra-thick threaded shanks. That increase in cross-sectional mass eliminates the flex point entirely. No deflection. No oscillation. No death wobble.
KIT386-POL vs KIT386-STL — which one: Same ProLock system, same geometry correction. The POL is 1.75" 7075-T6 aluminum at 35.6 lbs — reduced unsprung weight, mirror finish, optimized for street, highway, and show builds. The STL is solid 4140 chromoly at 42 lbs — maximum impact resistance for extreme rock crawling where the bar takes direct hits against boulders. Same platform, same geometry, different material for different applications.

| Vehicle | Reason | Correct Unit |
|---|---|---|
| 2013 Ram 2500 4WD | Retained legacy trailing-arm geometry — radius-arm update came one year later on 2500 | KIT381 series |
| 2012 and earlier Ram 2500 / 3500 | Different steering geometry | — |

2013 year-split — critical: Ram updated the Ram 3500 to the radius-arm front suspension in 2013 — a full model year before the Ram 2500. This bar fits the 2013 Ram 3500 but will NOT bolt up to a 2013 Ram 2500 steering knuckle. If you have a 2013 Ram 2500, see the KIT381 series for the correct unit.
Supporting mod requirements:
- Lifts 2–4": Direct bolt-on. No additional hardware required beyond the unit.
- Lifts exceeding 4": Track bar relocation bracket strongly recommended. Verify pitman arm drop compatibility before ordering.
- Complete polished steering system: Pair with KIT387-POL drag link for a fully matched mirror-finish front steering overhaul in one session. Text us your build and we'll confirm the complete package.
Section 3 — Before You Buy — Questions We Get Asked
Q: What's the difference between KIT386-POL and KIT386-STL?
Same ProLock system, same geometry correction, same platform coverage. The KIT386-POL is 1.75" 7075-T6 aluminum at 35.6 lbs — 6.4 lbs lighter than the steel version, mirror finish, optimized for street, highway, and show builds where reduced unsprung weight and aesthetics are the priority. The KIT386-STL is solid 4140 chromoly at 42 lbs — maximum localized impact resistance for extreme rock crawling where the bar takes direct hits against boulders. Performance is identical on street and mild trail. On serious boulder contact, solid chromoly holds straight where aluminum can deflect.
Q: Can I build a fully polished front steering system?
Yes. The KIT386-POL tie rod paired with the KIT387-POL drag link gives you a complete polished 7075-T6 aluminum front steering overhaul on the 2014–2026 Ram HD platform — matched material, matched finish, one installation session, one alignment fee. Text (469) 407-7538 with your year and we'll confirm the complete package before it ships.
Q: Does the polished finish require maintenance?
Raw 7075-T6 aircraft aluminum — not chrome plating, not a coating. It will not rust, chip, or peel. Over time it develops a natural aluminum patina. A quick pass with standard aluminum polish restores the mirror shine instantly. For a working truck that sees road salt and weather year-round, the KIT386-STL in black powdercoat is the lower-maintenance call.
Q: How hard is this install and what will I need?
Intermediate difficulty. Standard hand tools, a torque wrench, and a floor jack are required. A full front-end alignment — caster, camber, and toe — immediately after installation is mandatory. ProLock jam nuts must be torqued to Apex specification to fully engage the keyway locking feature. Budget one garage session and one same-day alignment appointment.
The Obsidian Take
The KIT386-POL is the right call for the Ram HD owner who built the truck to a standard and needs every component underneath to reflect it. The 1.75" 7075-T6 construction is the correct diameter for the Ram radius-arm platform's clearance envelope — 2" binds at full steering lock on this geometry, and Apex engineered to exactly what the platform requires. The 1.25" ultra-thick threaded shanks eliminate the factory shank flex that triggers death wobble on Cummins builds running heavy tire packages. The ProLock system physically locks alignment under fifth-wheel towing load and highway washboards. The raw mirror-polished finish is not chrome that flakes or paint that chips — it's buffed 7075-T6 that restores instantly with a pass of aluminum polish. At 35.6 lbs it is 6.4 lbs lighter than the chromoly steel version — less unsprung mass, faster suspension response on heavy 35" or 37" tire packages.
This unit is not for 2013 Ram 2500 owners — the radius-arm update came one year later on the 2500 than the 3500 and this bar will not bolt to your knuckle. See the KIT381 series. It is not for dedicated rock crawlers who will take direct boulder impacts against the tie rod — the KIT386-STL in solid 4140 chromoly is the correct tool for that application. If zero maintenance matters more than mirror finish, the KIT386-STL in black powdercoat is the right call. And if your drag link is also OEM, don't stop here — pair with the KIT387-POL for a complete matched polished front steering overhaul in one session and one alignment fee.
