Description
All three generations. Lighter than steel. Protected better than polished.
Three generations of Super Duty — P221, P558, P702 — and every one of them has the same problem under a lift with bigger tires. The OEM tie rod was engineered for stock geometry. At lift height the angle breaks down, bump steer develops, and the steering response disappears into flex and deflection that builds over time.
The Apex Chassis KIT372-BLK is the correction — and the choice that doesn't make you pick between performance and practicality. A massive 2" solid 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum tie rod with overbuilt 1.25" threaded shanks, ProLock high-misalignment ends, and a zero-maintenance black powdercoat finish — covering all three Super Duty generations in a single SKU. 6.7 lbs lighter than the steel version. Built to work. Built to last.

Why 2" aluminum instead of 1.5" like the steel version: Aluminum has a different modulus of elasticity than steel — the diameter must scale up to a full 2" to match the structural yield strength of the 1.5" solid steel bar. Same geometry correction, same ProLock system, different physics, different diameter. At 32.3 lbs the aluminum version is 6.7 lbs lighter — less unsprung mass means faster suspension response and improved pavement tracking on heavy 35" or 37" tire packages.
Why black powdercoat over polished on a working truck: The textured black powdercoat finish adds a physical barrier that raw polished aluminum doesn't have. On a working Super Duty that sees winter road salt, thick mud, and heavy weather cycles year-round, the powdercoat keeps the 7075-T6 aluminum underneath clean and corrosion-free without a maintenance or polishing schedule. Same aluminum performance underneath — zero upkeep on top.
KIT372-BLK vs the lineup — which one: Same ProLock system, same three-generation coverage, same geometry correction across all three variants. The BLK is black powdercoat aluminum — aluminum weight savings, zero-maintenance protection, the daily driver's choice. The POL is mirror-polished aluminum — same weight, show-truck aesthetic, requires occasional polish. The STL is solid high-strength steel — 39 lbs, maximum impact resistance for extreme rock crawling and direct boulder contact.

Drag link pairing — generation-specific: This tie rod covers all three Super Duty generations in one SKU. Your drag link does not. Ford updated steering box geometry between generations — confirm the correct companion drag link. For 2005–2016: KIT371-BLK. For 2017–2026: KIT373-BLK. Text (469) 407-7538 with your year and we'll confirm your complete black powdercoat steering package.
Supporting mod requirements:
- Lifts 2–4": Direct bolt-on. No additional hardware required beyond the unit.
- Lifts exceeding 4": Track bar relocation bracket strongly recommended. Verify pitman arm drop compatibility before ordering.
- Complete black powdercoat steering system: Pair with KIT371-BLK (2005–2016) or KIT373-BLK (2017–2026) drag link for a fully matched zero-maintenance front steering overhaul in one session.
Section 3 — Before You Buy — Questions We Get Asked
Q: What's the difference between KIT372-BLK, KIT372-POL, and KIT372-STL?
All three share the same ProLock system, same platform coverage, and same geometry correction. The KIT372-BLK is 2" 7075-T6 aluminum in black powdercoat — 32.3 lbs, reduced unsprung weight, textured finish that seals out the elements for daily and trail use with zero maintenance. The KIT372-POL is the identical aluminum bar in polished mirror finish — same weight, show-truck aesthetic, requires occasional polish to maintain. The KIT372-STL is solid high-strength steel — 39 lbs, maximum impact resistance for extreme rock crawling and direct boulder contact. The black powdercoat is the daily driver's choice — aluminum performance, protected finish, no upkeep.
Q: Can I build a complete black powdercoat steering system?
Yes. The KIT372-BLK tie rod paired with the KIT371-BLK drag link (2005–2016) or KIT373-BLK drag link (2017–2026) gives you a complete zero-maintenance black powdercoat front steering overhaul on your Super Duty platform. Text (469) 407-7538 with your year and we'll confirm the complete package before it ships.
Q: Does this fit my F-350 dually?
Yes — SRW and DRW both confirmed across all three generations 2005–2026. F-450 and F-550 wide-track commercial chassis are not compatible. Confirm 4WD before ordering.
Q: How hard is this install and what will I need?
Intermediate difficulty. Standard hand tools, a torque wrench, and a floor jack are required. A full front-end alignment — caster, camber, and toe — immediately after installation is mandatory. ProLock jam nuts must be torqued to Apex specification to fully engage the keyway locking feature. Budget one garage session and one same-day alignment appointment.
The Obsidian Take
The KIT372-BLK is the right call for the Super Duty owner who wants aluminum weight savings and zero-maintenance surface protection in the same unit — without choosing between performance and practicality. The 2" 7075-T6 construction matches the structural yield strength of the 1.5" solid steel bar at 6.7 lbs less unsprung weight — faster suspension response, better pavement tracking on heavy 35" or 37" tire packages, and the same ProLock geometry correction that eliminates factory shank flex and death wobble triggers. The black powdercoat finish seals the aluminum against road salt, brine, and weather year-round with zero upkeep — the right specification for any Super Duty that earns its miles in real conditions. SRW and DRW both confirmed across all 22 model years and all three platform generations in one SKU.
This unit is not for F-450 or F-550 owners. It is not for 2WD Super Duty owners. It is not for dedicated rock crawlers who will scrape the tie rod against boulder faces under load — the KIT372-STL in solid high-strength steel handles localized crushing forces that aluminum cannot. If the mirror finish matters more than zero maintenance, the KIT372-POL in polished aluminum is the right call instead. And your drag link is generation-specific — it is the other half of the system. For 2005–2016 pair with KIT371-BLK. For 2017–2026 pair with KIT373-BLK. Text (469) 407-7538 with your year and lift height and we'll confirm the complete package before it ships.
