Description
Split-diameter DOM engineering. Maximum structural density. Front end locked.
Factory tie rod and drag link sleeves on the 2017–2022 Super Duty bow and flex under the massive leverage of heavier tires and altered suspension geometry — feeding the highway wander, tracking deflection, and death wobble that makes a capable truck exhausting to drive.
The Apex Chassis KIT175 is the permanent engineering fix. A massive 2.125" DOM SAE 1020 steel tie rod paired with a 1.625" DOM steel drag link — split-diameter engineering that maximizes structural resistance at the front-facing impact point while maintaining the correct clearance profile for the upper drag link. Ninja Washers locking system. E-coat protection. Pre-greased from the factory. Both components. One kit. Front end locked.

Why the 2.125" x 1.625" split: The tie rod runs knuckle-to-knuckle across the lower axle beam where lateral impact loads and steering forces are highest — the massive 2.125" DOM cross-section is one of the largest solid steel tracking diameters available for the P558 platform. The drag link operates in the tighter space near the frame rail and track bar brackets — the 1.625" diameter delivers full structural rigidity while clearing those frame components during full suspension travel. Both diameters are platform-specific engineering decisions.
The reversible taper sleeve: On lifted P558 trucks where the drag link angle changes, mounting a steering stabilizer into a standard tapered hole can create binding. Apex drills the pitman arm end hole straight through and includes a reversible stainless steel taper sleeve — allowing stabilizer mounting from either side without binding the joints. No fabrication required.
Unsprung mass note: At 61.0 lbs this is a maximum-duty structural assembly. Performance-valved front shocks and an upgraded steering stabilizer are strongly recommended to properly control this added front axle mass over harsh terrain.
Section 2 — Critical Compatibility
✅ This kit fits — P558 standard-track solid front axle 4WD
| Vehicle | Drivetrain | Model Years | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ford F-250 Super Duty | 4WD only | 2017–2022 | Standard track only |
| Ford F-350 Super Duty SRW | 4WD only | 2017–2022 | Standard track only |
❌ This kit does NOT fit — read before ordering
| Vehicle / Configuration | Reason | Correct Unit |
|---|---|---|
| 2023–2026 Ford Super Duty (P702) | Updated chassis geometry — different steering paths | Contact us |
| 2005–2016 Ford Super Duty (P221) | Different platform generation | KIT370-STL |
| Wide-track F-350 models | Factory wide-track front axle — this kit will be too short | — |
| Ford F-450 / F-550 | Wide-track commercial front axle — incompatible dimensions | — |
| Ford Super Duty 2WD | Twin I-beam independent front suspension — no solid axle linkage | — |
| Ford F-150 | Different platform entirely | — |
P558 platform — standard track only: This kit is geometrically optimized for the standard-track front axle on the 2017–2022 P558 Super Duty. Wide-track F-350 models with factory hub extensions and wide-track front axle options will result in incorrect tie rod length. If you're unsure about your track width, text (469) 407-7538 with your VIN and we'll confirm before we ship.
2023+ owners: The 2023+ P702 Super Duty platform features updated steering gear paths and geometry profiles. This kit is not confirmed for 2023+ — contact us before ordering.
⚠️ BDS adjustable trackbar incompatibility: The oversized dimensions of the KIT175 are NOT compatible with BDS aftermarket adjustable track bars due to mechanical clearance constraints during full steering sweeps. Text (469) 407-7538 if you're running a BDS trackbar before ordering.
⚠️ Dual stabilizer bracket note: The Apex tie rod ends are engineered larger in diameter than factory OE ends. Certain aftermarket dual steering stabilizer brackets may require slight clearancing or modification to clear the oversized 2.125" DOM bar during full steering lock cycles. Verify your bracket before ordering.
⚠️ Camber note for alignment shop: The 2017–2022 Super Duty P558 platform runs a solid front axle where factory camber is entirely fixed and non-adjustable. Post-install alignment corrects toe and centers the steering wheel — camber remains fixed. Inform your alignment tech before the appointment.
Supporting mod requirements:
- 0–4" of lift: Direct bolt-on. Verify parallel tracking paths with your track bar at the installed lift height.
- Lifts exceeding 4": A track bar relocation bracket is strongly recommended to maintain the drag link and track bar on parallel operating planes.
Section 3 — Before You Buy — Questions We Get Asked
Q: Will this fix death wobble on my 2017–2022 F-250 or F-350?
Yes — provided ball joints, track bar bushings, and steering box are in serviceable condition. The combination of oversized 4140 chromoly ball studs, thick-walled 2.125" DOM steel tubing, and zero-play Ninja locking washers removes the compliance that permits front-end oscillation to develop. Plan for performance-valved front shocks and an upgraded stabilizer alongside this kit to properly control the added front axle mass.
Q: Can I run this on a completely stock-height truck?
Yes. The KIT175 installs at factory ride height all the way up to 6 inches of lift. At stock height, verify the drag link angle does not create bump steer before installation. At higher lift profiles, verify parallel tracking paths with your track bar and plan for a track bar relocation bracket at lifts exceeding 4".
Q: What is the reversible drag link taper sleeve for?
On lifted P558 trucks where the drag link angle changes, mounting a steering stabilizer into a standard tapered hole can create binding depending on clearance. Apex drills the pitman arm end hole straight through and includes a reversible stainless steel taper sleeve — allowing you to mount the stabilizer from either side seamlessly without binding the joints. No custom fabrication required.
Q: How hard is this install and what will I need?
Intermediate to advanced difficulty due to the physical weight of the DOM steel components at 61.0 lbs. Standard hand tools, a torque wrench, and a floor jack are required. A full front-end toe alignment immediately after is mandatory. Ninja Washer jam nuts must be torqued to Apex specification to fully engage the keyway locking mechanism. Budget one garage session for the swap and one same-day alignment appointment.
The Obsidian Take
The KIT175 is built for the 2017–2022 P558 Super Duty owner who needs maximum structural density over every other consideration — the rock crawler whose tie rod slides over boulders, the commercial hauler pulling extreme tonnage on rough terrain, the oilfield working truck that cannot afford steering flex in the field. The 2.125" DOM tie rod is one of the largest solid steel tracking diameters available for this platform. The Ninja Washer system physically locks alignment against any terrain or towing load — it cannot back out or slip. The reversible taper sleeve solves the drag link flip stabilizer mounting problem before you encounter it. The E-coat finish provides uniform corrosion protection. Pre-greased with zerk fittings for ongoing field service means this assembly is built to be maintained for the life of the truck.
This kit is not for daily drivers, highway tow rigs, or trail builds that don't involve direct linkage-to-rock contact — the KIT375 series in polished or black aluminum delivers better ride dynamics and reduced unsprung weight for those applications. It is not for 2023 or newer Super Duty owners — the P702 geometry differs, contact us to confirm. It is not for wide-track F-350 builds, F-450, or F-550. At 61.0 lbs, factory shocks are not a sufficient complement — plan for performance-valved shocks and an upgraded stabilizer alongside this kit. If you're running a BDS adjustable trackbar, text us before ordering — that combination has a hard clearance conflict. Text (469) 407-7538 with your year, lift height, track width, and stabilizer setup and we'll confirm everything before we ship.
