Description
You committed to the high-steer conversion. The steering kit has to match.
A high-steer knuckle conversion on a Dana 44 JL, JLU, or Gladiator JT changes the geometry of the entire front steering track. Moving the drag link mounting point above the passenger knuckle eliminates the bump steer that standard geometry introduces at aggressive lift heights — but only if the steering linkage is engineered from scratch to work with that flipped geometry, not against it.
The Apex Chassis KIT125-Dana44-YesFlip is the polished aluminum complete solution for wide-track Dana 44 builds running high-steer knuckle conversions at 3.5–6"+ of lift. Dual-diameter solid 7075-T6 aluminum — 2" tie rod, 1.75" drag link — over-knuckle flip geometry, Internal Flopper Stoppers, integrated double-adjuster, and a mirror finish. The choice when the build standard applies to everything underneath.

Why the 2" x 1.75" split: The lower tie rod runs knuckle-to-knuckle across the front of the axle beam where lateral impact loads are highest — the 2.0" solid aluminum cross-section delivers the structural yield strength equivalent of solid steel at this critical point. The upper drag link operates near the tight clearances of the frame rail and sway bar mounts — the 1.75" diameter delivers structural rigidity while clearing those frame components at full articulation during the over-knuckle sweep.
Why polished aluminum over steel on a high-lift performance build: At 44 lbs combined — 8.5 lbs lighter than steel equivalents — the unsprung weight savings are directly measurable. Less unsprung mass means suspension dampers respond faster to high-speed road inputs, tracking with superior compliance on 37" or 40" tire packages. The lighter rotational load also protects the factory EHPS steering motor from premature heat fatigue. 7075-T6 features native flex memory — the bars deflect to absorb a harsh trail impact and snap back to their original profile.
The Internal Flopper Stoppers advantage: Standard aftermarket steering on lifted Jeeps suffers from tie-rod roll — the steering box sector shaft force causes the main bars to rotate forward and backward on their ball studs before actually turning the tires, creating the vague dead spot that lifted Wrangler owners know too well. The Internal Flopper Stoppers are built directly inside the forged joint housings — not external rubber stops. They physically block forward and aft deflection to 2 degrees while leaving a full 27 degrees of lateral stud swing for suspension articulation. No dead spot. No slop. Immediate response.

❌ This kit does NOT fit — read before ordering
| Vehicle / Configuration | Reason | Correct Unit |
|---|---|---|
| OEM or standard knuckles without high-steer conversion | Incorrect drag link angle — unsafe steering geometry | KIT125-Dana44-NoFlip |
| Any build under 3.5" of suspension lift | Frame rail contact under compression — hard physical limitation | KIT125-Dana44-NoFlip |
| Standard-track Dana 30 Sport / Sport S | Different axle geometry | Dana 30 flip kit variant |
| Factory stock wheels / Factory Rubicon 17" wheels | ~6.0" backspacing contacts joint housings at full steering lock | — |
| 2007–2018 Jeep Wrangler JK / JKU | Different steering geometry | KIT140-NoFlip / KIT130-NoFlip |
3.5" minimum lift — non-negotiable: Below 3.5" of suspension lift, the flipped drag link will contact the underside of the passenger-side frame rail during suspension compression. This is a hard physical clearance limit — not a conservative buffer. Do not order this kit for any build running less than 3.5" of lift.
⚠️ High-steer conversion required — no exceptions: This kit mounts over the knuckle. Installing on OEM or standard knuckles without a high-steer conversion will result in incorrect drag link angle and unsafe steering geometry. If you have standard knuckles — order KIT125-Dana44-NoFlip.
⚠️ Wheel clearance — hard requirement: The 2.5-ton joint housings require a minimum 17" wheel with 4.5" or less backspacing. Factory Rubicon and Sahara wheels run approximately 6.0" backspacing — the inner barrel will contact the joint housings at full steering lock. Aftermarket wheels or quality wheel spacers required.
⚠️ Knuckle machining note: Review your high-steer knuckle manufacturer's data sheet before assembly. Certain high-steer blocks require drilling the taper insert mount to a straight 7/8" diameter to accept the flip taper sleeve. Text us your knuckle brand and model and we'll confirm before we ship.
Before You Buy — Questions We Get Asked
Q: What's the difference between KIT125-Dana44-YesFlip and KIT115-Dana44-YesFlip?
Same wide Dana 44 platform, same flip geometry, same 3.5" minimum lift requirement. The KIT125 is 2" x 1.75" solid 7075-T6 polished aluminum at 44 lbs — reduced unsprung weight, mirror finish, flex memory, EHPS motor protection, the right call for overland builds and high-lift performance trucks where steering responsiveness and aesthetics matter. The KIT115 is 1.75" DOM steel — maximum impact resistance for dedicated rock crawling where the linkage takes direct boulder hits. Trail builds and daily drivers choose aluminum. Rock crawlers choose steel.
Q: What's the difference between KIT125-Dana44-YesFlip and KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip?
Identical flip geometry, identical platform, nearly identical weight. The KIT125 is raw polished mirror aluminum — show-quality finish that occasional polish maintains over time. The KIT120 is black powdercoat aluminum — same performance, zero-maintenance finish for builds that see road salt and weather year-round. Same kit, different surface.
Q: Will this clear my factory Rubicon 17" wheels?
No. Factory Rubicon wheels run approximately 6.0" backspacing — the inner barrel will contact the 2.5-ton joint housings at full steering lock. You need aftermarket wheels at 4.5" or less backspacing, or quality wheel spacers. Text (469) 407-7538 with your wheel specs and we'll confirm clearance.
Q: How hard is this install and what will I need?
Advanced difficulty — this is not a standard intermediate install. High-steer flip geometry requires understanding of how the drag link interfaces with the top-mounted knuckle position. Professional installation and alignment are not optional. Verify your lift height is a true 3.5" or more before installing. Review your knuckle manufacturer's data sheet for any required machining. Full front-end alignment immediately after is mandatory — failure to center the steering wheel will trip the JL/JT's ESC traction warning light.
The Obsidian Take
The KIT125-Dana44-YesFlip is for the JL and Gladiator owner who has already committed to a high-steer conversion on their wide-track Dana 44 and wants the steering linkage to match the standard of every other component on the build. The 2" x 1.75" split-diameter 7075-T6 construction delivers 2.5-ton joint capacity at 44 lbs — 8.5 lbs lighter than steel equivalents — with faster suspension response on heavy tire packages and meaningful EHPS motor protection over time. The Internal Flopper Stoppers eliminate the steering dead zone that lifted Wrangler owners live with on generic aftermarket linkage. The ProLock system physically locks alignment against washboard vibration and trail loads. The integrated double-adjuster cuts alignment shop labor time in half. The raw mirror-polished finish reflects the standard of the rest of the build every time someone gets underneath.
This kit is not for builds under 3.5" of lift — frame contact under compression is a hard physical limitation with no exceptions. It is not for standard knuckle builds — if you don't have a high-steer conversion installed, order KIT125-Dana44-NoFlip. It is not for Dana 30 Sport or Sport S owners — the axle geometry is different. It is not for dedicated rock crawlers who will drag the linkage over boulder faces — the KIT115-Dana44-YesFlip in DOM steel is the correct tool for that application. If zero maintenance matters more than mirror finish, the mechanically identical KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip in black powdercoat is the right call. Text (469) 407-7538 with your year, knuckle brand, lift height, and wheel specs and we'll verify geometry compatibility before we ship.
