Fitment, Shipping & Product Support

The Rubicon doesn't need to announce itself. Neither does its steering.

Some builds go understated. The hard black anodized finish is the choice for the Rubicon, Sahara, 4xe, or Mojave owner who wants the handling benefits of front-axle mass reduction without the maintenance schedule of a polished mirror finish. The factory tie rod and drag link don't belong on a lifted JL, JLU, or Gladiator running real tires. At 2–6 inches of lift with 35s or 37s, the weak factory linkages flex and deflect under load — killing steering precision, introducing bump steer, and feeding the wheel slop that makes a capable rig feel unfinished on the highway.

The Apex Chassis KIT120-Dana44-NoFlip is the comprehensive correction. A complete 2.5-ton split-diameter solid 7075-T6 aluminum steering overhaul — 2.0" tie rod, 1.75" drag link, Internal Flopper Stoppers, integrated hex double-adjuster, and a hard anodized finish that cannot chip, peel, or require maintenance — engineered specifically for the wide-track Dana 44 (M210) front axle on the 2018–2026 JL/JLU and 2019–2026 Gladiator JT.

Why the 2.0" x 1.75" split: The tie rod runs knuckle-to-knuckle across the lower axle beam where lateral forces are highest — 2.0" solid aluminum cross-section is what matches the structural yield capacity of high-tensile steel at this span. The drag link operates near the frame rail and sway bar mounts — the 1.75" diameter delivers elite structural rigidity while clearing those tight frame components at full suspension compression. Both diameters are platform-specific engineering decisions.

Why hard anodized over powdercoat or polished: Powdercoat sits on top of the aluminum and can chip under trail impact, exposing bare metal. Anodizing converts the outer layer of the aluminum itself into aluminum oxide — fused into the rod surface, not sitting on it. It cannot chip, peel, or flake under trail contact. For a Rubicon or Sahara that sees brutal trail environments, winter road salt, and mud, the anodized surface provides maintenance-free longevity that polished aluminum cannot match without upkeep.

The Internal Flopper Stoppers advantage: Standard aftermarket steering on lifted Jeeps suffers from tie-rod roll — the bars rotate forward and backward on their ball studs before the tires respond to steering input, creating the vague dead spot lifted Wrangler owners know too well. The Internal Flopper Stoppers are built directly inside the forged joint housings — not external rubber stops. They physically block forward and aft deflection to 2 degrees while leaving a full 27 degrees of lateral stud swing for suspension articulation. Immediate response. No dead zone.

⚠️ Wheel clearance — hard requirement: Factory Rubicon and Sahara wheels run approximately 6.0" backspacing — the inner barrel will contact the joint housings at full steering lock. Aftermarket wheels at 4.5" or less backspacing, or quality wheel spacers required. Text (469) 407-7538 with your wheel specs and we'll confirm clearance.

⚠️ High-steer knuckle incompatibility: Installing the no-flip kit on high-steer knuckles will produce incorrect drag link angle and unsafe steering geometry. If you have a high-steer conversion on your Dana 44 — order KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip.

⚠️ Gladiator Sport axle verification: Gladiator Sport without the Max-Tow package runs the Dana 30 — order KIT120-Dana30-NoFlip. Gladiator Sport with the Max-Tow package runs the Dana 44 — this kit fits. Check your build sheet or text us your VIN.

Supporting mod requirements:

  • Lifts 2–3": Direct bolt-on beyond wheel backspacing requirement.
  • Lifts exceeding 3": Adjustable control arms or caster correction kit recommended to restore factory caster angle.

Before You Buy — Questions We Get Asked

Q: What's the difference between KIT120-Dana44-NoFlip and KIT125-Dana44-NoFlip?

Mechanically and dimensionally identical — same 2.0" x 1.75" solid 7075-T6 bars, same 1.25" threaded shanks, same Flopper Stoppers and double-adjuster, same 44.0 lbs. The KIT120 is hard black anodized — zero maintenance, corrosion protection fused into the aluminum surface that cannot chip or peel. The KIT125 is raw polished mirror aluminum — show-quality finish, occasional polish required to maintain the shine. Same performance. Choose based on your build aesthetic and maintenance preference.

Q: What's the difference between black anodized and black powdercoat?

Powdercoat sits on top of the aluminum and can chip under trail impact, exposing bare metal. Anodizing converts the outer layer of the aluminum itself into aluminum oxide — fused into the surface, not a layer on it. It cannot chip, peel, or flake under trail contact. For trail use and real-world conditions, anodizing provides more durable long-term surface protection than powdercoat.

Q: Does this fit my Gladiator Sport?

Depends on configuration. Gladiator Sport without the Max-Tow package runs the Dana 30 — order KIT120-Dana30-NoFlip. Gladiator Sport with the Max-Tow package runs the Dana 44 — this kit fits. Check your build sheet or text (469) 407-7538 with your VIN and we'll confirm before you order.

Q: How hard is this install and what will I need?

Intermediate difficulty. Standard hand tools, a torque wrench, and a floor jack are required. A full front-end alignment immediately after is mandatory — failure to center the steering wheel will trip the JL/JT's ESC traction warning light. On lifts exceeding 3", have caster correction planned before the alignment appointment. Budget one garage session and one same-day alignment appointment.

The Obsidian Take

The KIT120-Dana44-NoFlip is for the Rubicon, Sahara, 4xe, or Gladiator JT owner who built the truck to a trail-ready standard and wants the steering to match — with zero maintenance overhead. The 2.0" x 1.75" split-diameter 7075-T6 construction delivers 2.5-ton joint capacity at 44.0 lbs — 8.5 lbs lighter than the DOM steel version — with faster suspension response on heavy tire packages and meaningful EHPS motor protection over time. The Internal Flopper Stoppers permanently eliminate the steering dead zone that comes with generic aftermarket linkage on lifted Jeeps. The hard anodized finish is not a coating — it is a conversion of the aluminum surface itself into aluminum oxide that cannot chip or peel under trail contact. The integrated double-adjuster sleeve cuts alignment shop labor in half. One session, one alignment appointment, steering corrected.

This kit is not for Sport or Sport S owners with the Dana 30 — the axle geometry is different, see KIT120-Dana30-NoFlip. It is not for builders running high-steer knuckle conversions on the Dana 44 — the no-flip geometry produces incorrect drag link angles on flipped knuckles, use KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip. Factory Rubicon and Sahara wheels will not clear the joint housings — verify your wheel backspacing is 4.5" or less before ordering. If the mirror finish matters more than zero maintenance, the mechanically identical KIT125-Dana44-NoFlip in polished aluminum is the right call. For builds where direct boulder contact is the priority application, the KIT115-Dana44-NoFlip in DOM steel handles localized crushing forces that aluminum cannot.
