Description
Two components. One kit. The steering your JL or Gladiator deserves.
The JL and Gladiator arrived with more capability out of the box than any Wrangler before them. Better suspension geometry, stronger axles, more power options. And the same factory steering problem that exists on every Wrangler that gets lifted and put on bigger tires. Lift it 2–6 inches, step up to 35s or 37s, and the OEM tie rod and drag link work against every improvement you made.
The Apex Chassis KIT115-Dana44-NoFlip is the complete fix. A 2.5-ton solid 7075-T6 aluminum tie rod and drag link assembly with proprietary overbuilt joints and the full ProLock double-adjuster system — built specifically for the wide-track Dana 44 (M210) front axle at 2–6" of lift with OEM or mild aftermarket knuckles. Two components. One kit. Done right.

Why 2.5-ton rating vs the 1-ton JK kit: The modern JL and Gladiator platforms run heavier vehicle masses, wider track widths, and larger tire profiles from the factory than the JK generation. Apex engineered this kit with larger joint diameters, thicker internal bearing tracks, and 1.75" solid 7075-T6 bar stock to safely handle 37" to 40" tire profiles under extreme off-road conditions.
Why solid 7075 aluminum instead of steel on the JL/JT platform: The modern JL/JT steering boxes use sensitive electronic-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) assist modules. Heavy steel bars create high unsprung weight and high-frequency vibrations that stress internal steering gear components and cause premature EHPS motor overheating. Solid 7075-T6 drops the weight profile, absorbs trail chatter, and features flex-memory properties that let it slide over boulders and spring back straight — protecting the EHPS module in the process.
The double-adjuster advantage: The integrated hex heavy-duty double-adjuster sleeve allows your alignment tech to dial in perfect toe metrics directly on the rack without ever disconnecting the linkage joints from the knuckles. Alignment shop labor time cut in half. Clean, precise, repeatable.

❌ This kit does NOT fit — read before ordering
| Vehicle / Configuration | Reason | Correct Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Jeep Wrangler Sport / Sahara base models | Narrow standard-track Dana 30 (M186) axle — geometry incompatible | Contact us |
| Factory stock wheels / Factory Rubicon 17" wheels | ~6.0" backspacing contacts 2.5-ton joint housings at full steering lock | — |
| High-steer knuckle conversions | Incorrect drag link angle — unsafe steering geometry | Flip kit variant |
| 2007–2018 Jeep Wrangler JK / JKU | Different steering geometry | KIT150-NoFlip |
| TJ, YJ, CJ Wranglers | Different platforms entirely | — |
2018 model year — critical: 2018 produced both JK and JL Wranglers. This kit fits 2018 JL/JLU Rubicon models only. If your 2018 is a JK body style, stop here and see KIT150-NoFlip.
⚠️ Wheel clearance — hard requirement: The 2.5-ton joint housings require a minimum 17" wheel with 4.5" or less backspacing. Factory Rubicon 17" wheels run approximately 6.0" backspacing — the inner barrel will contact the joint housings at full steering lock. Aftermarket wheels or quality wheel spacers are required. Text (469) 407-7538 with your wheel brand, model, and backspacing and we'll confirm clearance before you order.
⚠️ 392 HEMI and Ecodiesel owners: The passenger-side track bar bracket clearance is tighter on 392 HEMI V8 and 3.0L Ecodiesel V6 models due to different frame reinforcement plates. The tie rod installs normally — the drag link requires careful indexing. Text your engine trim and suspension list before ordering and we'll manually verify clearances.
⚠️ High-steer knuckle incompatibility: Installing the no-flip kit on high-steer knuckles will produce incorrect drag link angle and unsafe steering geometry. If you are running Dynatrac, RockJock, Synergy, or any high-steer conversion — the flip kit variant is required, no exceptions.
⚠️ Axle identification: Not sure if you have the Dana 44 (M210) or Dana 30 (M186)? Rubicon models come standard with the Dana 44. Base Sport and Sahara models come with the Dana 30. Check your build sheet or door jamb sticker — or text us your VIN and we'll confirm.
Supporting mod requirements:
- Lifts 2–3": Direct bolt-on beyond wheel backspacing requirement.
- Lifts exceeding 3": Adjustable control arms or a caster correction kit recommended to restore factory caster angle.
Section 3 — Before You Buy — Questions We Get Asked
Q: Will this clear my factory Rubicon 17" wheels?
No. Factory Rubicon 17" wheels run approximately 6.0" backspacing — the inner barrel will contact the 2.5-ton joint housings at full steering lock. You need aftermarket wheels with 4.5" or less backspacing, or quality wheel spacers to clear the joint housings. Text (469) 407-7538 with your wheel brand, model, and backspacing and we'll confirm clearance before you order.
Q: Does this fit my Sport or Sahara model?
No. Base Sport and Sahara models run the narrow standard-track Dana 30 (M186) axle. This kit is engineered specifically for the wide-track Dana 44 (M210) — it will not line up to the M186 geometry. Contact us for the correct unit for your Sport or Sahara.
Q: What's the difference between no-flip and flip kit on the JL/JT platform?
The no-flip retains factory steering geometry — engineered for OEM or mild aftermarket knuckles without a high-steer conversion. The flip kit variant mounts the drag link to the top of the knuckle, correcting the extreme angles produced by high-steer knuckle conversions. If you're running or planning a high-steer conversion of any brand, the flip kit is required with no exceptions. Text us and we'll confirm the correct variant for your setup.
Q: How hard is this install and what will I need?
Intermediate difficulty. Standard hand tools, a torque wrench, and a floor jack are required. Replacing both steering components simultaneously — professional alignment immediately after is mandatory. Failure to center the steering wheel will trip the JL/JT's electronic stability control dash warning light. On lifts exceeding 3", have caster correction planned before the alignment appointment. Budget one garage session and one same-day alignment appointment.
The Obsidian Take
The KIT115-Dana44-NoFlip is built for the JL and Gladiator owner who lifted for capability and needs the steering to match everything else on the build. The 2.5-ton rating isn't marketing — it's the engineering response to the JL and Gladiator's heavier vehicle mass, wider track width, and larger factory tire envelopes compared to the JK generation. The 1.75" solid 7075-T6 construction on both bars drops the weight profile that heavy steel bars put on the sensitive EHPS steering module, absorbs trail chatter, and carries the flex memory to deflect off boulder contact and spring back straight. The rebuildable 2.5-ton joints handle the extreme articulation angles a heavily lifted JL produces without binding. The integrated double-adjuster sleeve makes alignment precise and repeatable without disconnecting joints. At 52.5 lbs it is a serious assembly — and the JL and Gladiator platforms at 2–6" of lift on 37s or 40s require exactly that.
This kit is not for Sport or Sahara owners with the Dana 30 (M186) — the geometry is incompatible. It is not for owners still running factory Rubicon 17" wheels — the 6.0" backspacing contacts the joint housings and the kit will not clear without aftermarket wheels or spacers. It is not for builders running high-steer knuckle conversions — the flip kit variant is required with no exceptions. And if you're running a 392 HEMI or Ecodiesel, text us before you order — the drag link requires manual clearance verification on those trims before we ship.
