Description
You don't need a Rubicon to build a serious JL. You need the right steering kit.
The Sport and Sport S JL, JLU, and Gladiator JT run the standard-track Dana 30 from the factory. It's a capable axle — and it responds to the exact same steering upgrade needs as the Dana 44 when you lift it and put real tires under it. The factory tie rod and drag link were engineered for stock height and pavement. Raise the front end 2–6 inches, add 35s or 37s, and that factory linkage breaks down under lateral load. Bump steer develops. The front end gets vague.
The Apex Chassis KIT115-Dana30-NoFlip is the maximum-duty heavy-wall DOM steel fix for Dana 30 builds. A complete 2.5-ton tie rod and drag link assembly with overbuilt 1-ton rod end housings and the full ProLock double-adjuster system — engineered specifically for the standard-track Dana 30 (M186) front axle at 2–6" of lift with OEM or mild aftermarket knuckles. One kit. Both components. Done right.

Why heavy-wall DOM tube instead of solid bar on the Dana 30: The standard-track Dana 30 knuckle castings are smaller and more fragile than Dana 44 knuckles. A fully solid steel bar creates excessive leverage that can cause structural knuckle failure during a hard trail hit. The 1.5" heavy-wall DOM tube eliminates the internal weld seam and produces a completely uniform wall thickness — delivering 2.5-ton yield strength at 47.9 lbs while protecting your Dana 30 knuckles from the leverage stress a solid bar would create.
The double-adjuster advantage: On a factory JL, setting toe or centering the steering wheel requires physically unbolting the tie rod from the steering knuckle. The Apex double-adjuster sleeve allows your alignment tech to make micro-adjustments directly on the vehicle link without ever disconnecting a joint. Alignment shop labor time cut in half.
KIT115-Dana30-NoFlip vs KIT120-Dana30-NoFlip — which one: Same Dana 30 platform, same no-flip geometry. The KIT115 is heavy-wall DOM steel at 47.9 lbs — maximum impact resistance for rock crawl and direct trail contact where the linkage takes hits. The KIT120 is aluminum at 44 lbs — reduced unsprung weight for street-biased and trail builds where ride quality matters more than boulder resistance. Text (469) 407-7538 with your use case and we'll confirm the right one.

2024–2026 Willys lockout: Jeep upgraded the Willys trim to the wide-track Dana 44 (M210) starting in 2024. If your Willys is a 2024, 2025, or 2026 — this kit will not fit. Order KIT115-Dana44-NoFlip instead.
⚠️ Gladiator Max-Tow lockout: Gladiator Sport models with the factory Max-Tow package are equipped with the wide-track Dana 44. Check your build sheet or window sticker — or text us your VIN and we'll confirm before you order.
⚠️ Wheel clearance — hard requirement: The 2.5-ton joint housings require a minimum 17" wheel with 4.75" or less backspacing. Factory Sport 17" wheels run approximately 6.0" backspacing — the inner barrel will contact the joint housings at full steering lock. Aftermarket wheels or quality wheel spacers required. Text (469) 407-7538 with your wheel brand, model, and backspacing and we'll confirm clearance.
⚠️ Axle identification: Not sure if your JL or Gladiator has the Dana 30 or Dana 44? Sport and Sport S trims are generally Dana 30. Sahara, Rubicon, 4xe, Mojave, 2024+ Willys, and Max-Tow Gladiators are Dana 44. Text us your VIN and we'll confirm in minutes.
Supporting mod requirements:
- Lifts 2–3": Direct bolt-on beyond wheel backspacing requirement.
- Lifts exceeding 3": Adjustable control arms or caster correction kit recommended to restore factory caster angle.
Before You Buy — Questions We Get Asked
Q: What's the difference between KIT115-Dana30-NoFlip and KIT115-Dana44-NoFlip?
Same JL/JLU and Gladiator platform, same 2.5-ton rating, same no-flip geometry. The Dana 30 kit fits standard-track M186 axles — Sport and Sport S trims and pre-2024 Willys. The Dana 44 kit fits wide-track M210 axles — Sahara, Rubicon, 4xe, Mojave, 2024+ Willys, and Gladiator Dana 44 trims. The Dana 44 kit requires 4.5" max backspacing vs 4.75" on this kit. Confirm your axle before ordering — text us your VIN and we'll verify in minutes.
Q: Will this clear my factory 17" Jeep Sport wheels?
No. Factory Sport 17" wheels run approximately 6.0" backspacing — the inner barrel will contact the 2.5-ton joint housings at full steering lock. You need aftermarket wheels at 4.75" or less backspacing, or quality wheel spacers to clear the joint housings. Text us your wheel specs and we'll confirm clearance before you order.
Q: Does this fit my 2025 Willys?
No. Jeep upgraded the Willys trim to the wide-track Dana 44 starting in 2024. Your 2025 Willys has a Dana 44 — order KIT115-Dana44-NoFlip instead.
Q: How hard is this install and what will I need?
Intermediate difficulty. Standard hand tools, a torque wrench, and a floor jack are required. Replacing both steering components simultaneously — professional alignment immediately after is mandatory. Failure to center the steering wheel will trip the JL/JT's electronic stability control dash warning light. On lifts exceeding 3", have caster correction planned before the alignment appointment. Budget one garage session and one same-day alignment appointment.
The Obsidian Take
The KIT115-Dana30-NoFlip is built for the JL Sport and Gladiator JT owner who didn't need Rubicon badges to build a serious Jeep — and needs the steering to match what they've built. The heavy-wall DOM steel construction delivers 2.5-ton yield strength while protecting the Dana 30 knuckle castings from the excessive leverage a fully solid bar would create. The integrated double-adjuster sleeve makes alignment precise without disconnecting joints. The 2.5-ton serviceable rod ends handle the extreme angles a heavily lifted JL produces at full compression without binding, and they're rebuildable when they wear. At 47.9 lbs it is a serious assembly built for the terrain your Sport trim can actually reach on a proper lift.
This kit is not for Sahara, Rubicon, 4xe, or Mojave owners — those trims run the Dana 44 and require KIT115-Dana44-NoFlip. It is not for 2024 or newer Willys owners — Jeep upgraded the Willys to the Dana 44 in 2024. It is not for Gladiator Sport owners with the factory Max-Tow package — that package includes the Dana 44. Text us your VIN if you're unsure about your axle and we'll confirm before you order. It is not for builders running high-steer knuckle conversions on the Dana 30 — the flip kit variant is required. And factory Sport 17" wheels will not clear the joint housings — verify your wheel backspacing is 4.75" or less before ordering.
