What Is and Is NOT Included

Included:

  • Tie rod assembly with 1.5" 7075-T6 black anodized aluminum tube (tie rod ends TR117 and TR119)
  • Drag link assembly with 1.5" 7075-T6 black anodized aluminum tube (drag link ends TR117 and TR120)
  • 4 pre-bent Ninja washers
  • Jam nuts with integrated set screws
  • Grade 8 / Class 10.9 hardware, castle nuts
  • Zerk fittings (pre-threaded, pre-greased)

Not included:

  • Steering stabilizer bracket — must be selected separately based on stabilizer in use (Apex XP107 Jeep JK Steering Stabilizer Relocation Kit is available)
  • Steering stabilizer (sold separately)
  • Taper sleeve (included only in flip-kit variants; not included with this no-flip configuration unless ordered as such)
  • Wrench kit required for installation — KIT520 (WR111 33mm/34mm and WR101 33mm/35mm), sold separately

Critical Compatibility

  • Lift height: This no-flip configuration is typically suggested for lifts of 3.5 inches or less. Contact Apex for higher-lift applications before ordering.
  • Mount configuration: This is the under-knuckle (no-flip) variant. The flip-kit variant is a separate product for higher-lift applications.
  • Taper sleeve: Not included with this kit. Required if the knuckle drag link mount is drilled through. Flip-kit variants include a taper sleeve.
  • Stabilizer bracket: Not included. Select the appropriate Apex stabilizer bracket based on your steering stabilizer (Apex XP107 Relocation Kit, or other; Apex XP300 track bar relocation bolt is not compatible with 1 Ton kits due to clearance issues).
  • Wheel and spacer: Requires 17" wheel with 4.75" backspacing or less. AEV or stock Rubicon wheels require a 1.5" spacer.
  • Dana 30/44 axles: Fits stock Dana 30/44 axles. Contact Apex before ordering if major axle modifications have been performed.
  • Dana 60 axles: May be accommodated with modifications — contact Apex directly before ordering.
  • Ninja washers: Do not use both Ninja washers and Belleville washers simultaneously. Either type may be used in place of the other, but not both together.
  • Minimum engagement: Ensure thread engagement is always above the minimum engagement mark on the rod end threads.

Installation Notes

Safety warning: Steering is a critical safety component. The installer must read and follow the provided installation instructions in full before beginning. Failure to follow these instructions may result in loss of vehicle control, accident, and injury. Failure to use correct installation tools or follow correct procedures may also void the warranty. Installation instructions must be present through the full installation process, including alignment.

Required tools:
Apex wrench kit KIT520 — WR111 33mm/34mm and WR101 33mm/35mm (sold separately)

Required consumables:

  • Anti-seize compound (for inside threads of adjusting sleeve only — do not apply to rod end threads)
  • High-pressure lithium grease

Tie rod rod ends: TR117 and TR119
Drag link rod ends: TR117 and TR120

Installation summary:

  1. Before removing the OEM tie rod and drag link assemblies, measure from Zerk fitting to Zerk fitting on each and record those measurements for reference.
  2. Thread the jam nuts all the way down the tie rod ends. Install the pre-bent Ninja washers onto the adjusting sleeve with the bent side facing toward the adjusting sleeve. Belleville washers may be substituted — do not use both.
  3. Locate the left-hand side of the tie rod tube (it will have a cut line toward the end of the rod) and the left tie rod end (which has notches in the jam nut). Apply anti-seize to the inside threads of the adjusting sleeve only — not the rod end threads. Thread the tie rod end in, ensuring the correct thread direction, until it reaches the jam nut. Repeat for the right-hand side.
  4. Locate the drag link adjusting sleeve and ends and assemble following the same procedure as the tie rod (using TR117 and TR120).
  5. Remove the OEM tie rod and drag link assemblies.
  6. Apply a light layer of grease to the top of each boot before installation to reduce friction between the boot and joint.
  7. Install the drag link first — knuckle side first, then pitman arm side. Torque the castle nuts to 75–82 ft-lbs. Leave the jam nuts loose. Center the steering wheel, then rotate the tube until aligned.
  8. Install the tie rod assembly. Torque the castle nuts to 63–67 ft-lbs. Rotate the adjusting sleeve to the previously recorded measurements. Leave the jam nuts loose and use a tape measure to set toe to factory specifications.
  9. Tighten all jam nuts on the tie rods and drag links and torque to 150 ft-lbs.
  10. Have a professional complete a full alignment before driving.
  11. After alignment is complete, bend the pointed tabs of the Ninja washers over the jam nut to secure.
  12. Set and adjust the steering stabilizer, confirming equal travel at full lock in both directions (follow steering stabilizer manufacturer instructions).
  13. Check jam nuts for tightness at 500 miles. Continue to check every 5,000 miles or at every oil change.

The Obsidian Take

The KIT150 is Apex's complete 1 Ton tie rod and drag link replacement for the 2007–2018 Jeep Wrangler JK, built around a 1.5" 7075-T6 black anodized aluminum tube for both the tie rod and drag link, with SAE 1045 forged steel housings, SAE 4140 chromoly ball studs, and pre-bent Ninja washers securing the jam nuts. This is the no-flip, under-knuckle configuration — typically suggested for lifts of 3.5 inches or less. It is a full steering system replacement requiring the correct wrench kit (KIT520), a separate stabilizer bracket selected to your stabilizer, toe-setting to factory spec before jam nuts are torqued, Ninja washer tabs bent after alignment, and a professional alignment before driving. Wheel and spacer requirements apply — AEV or Rubicon wheels need a 1.5" spacer, and this kit requires a 17" wheel with 4.75" or less backspacing. Dana 30/44 axle applications are straightforward; anything modified or Dana 60 requires a call to Apex before ordering.

This Product Is For You If

  • You own a 2007–2018 Jeep Wrangler JK on stock Dana 30/44 axles (or have confirmed compatibility with Apex for modified setups).
  • Your current lift is 3.5 inches or less, making the no-flip under-knuckle configuration appropriate.
  • You are running a 17" wheel with 4.75" backspacing or less (or will add a 1.5" spacer for AEV/Rubicon wheels).
  • You want a complete 1 Ton tie rod and drag link replacement in black anodized aluminum.
  • You are prepared for a professional-level installation requiring a specific wrench kit, toe-setting, post-alignment Ninja washer bending, and a professional alignment.

This Product Is Not For You If

  • Your Jeep Wrangler JK is not a 2007–2018 model.
  • Your lift is greater than 3.5 inches — consider the Apex flip-kit variant instead.
  • Your wheels exceed 4.75" backspacing and you are not adding a 1.5" spacer (for AEV/Rubicon wheels).
  • You have performed major axle modifications and have not confirmed compatibility with Apex before ordering.
  • You do not have or are not prepared to obtain the required Apex wrench kit (KIT520) before installation.
  • You are using the Apex XP300 track bar relocation bolt — it is not compatible with 1 Ton kits due to clearance issues.

Common Questions

Is this kit for lifts above 3.5 inches?
This no-flip configuration is typically suggested for lifts of 3.5 inches or less. For higher lifts, see the Apex flip-kit variant.

What is the difference between no-flip and flip-kit?
The no-flip (under-knuckle) mounts the drag link below the knuckle — appropriate for lower lifts. The flip-kit (over-knuckle) inverts the drag link mount and includes a taper sleeve — used for higher lifts where geometry correction is needed.

Do I need a steering stabilizer bracket?
Yes, but it is not included. Select the appropriate bracket based on your steering stabilizer. Apex XP107 Jeep JK Steering Stabilizer Relocation Kit is available separately. The Apex XP300 track bar relocation bolt is not compatible with this kit.

What wheels work with this kit?
A 17" wheel with 4.75" backspacing or less. AEV or stock Rubicon wheels require a 1.5" spacer.

Does this fit a Dana 60 axle?
Modifications are available for Dana 60 applications. Contact Apex directly before ordering.

Do I need special tools?
Yes. Apex wrench kit KIT520 — WR111 33mm/34mm and WR101 33mm/35mm — is required and sold separately.

Is a professional alignment required?
Yes. Set toe to factory specifications before torquing the jam nuts, then have a professional complete a full alignment before driving. Ninja washer tabs are bent and the stabilizer is adjusted only after alignment is complete.

How often should I check the jam nuts?
At 500 miles after installation, then every 5,000 miles or at every oil change.

What is the warranty?
