The COR-4801011 is Clayton Off Road's front long arm upgrade kit for the 1984–2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ. The kit includes a 3-piece crossmember and upper and lower adjustable control arms. The 3-piece crossmember is designed to bolt into the OEM crossmember location for alignment purposes before being welded in place for maximum strength — this ensures correct positioning without requiring precise measurement during installation. The center section of the crossmember is removable, allowing drivetrain service without removing any suspension components. The frame-end joints are Currie Johnny Joints — 40° of unrestricted movement with Tough 88 urethane casing for shock absorption and NVH isolation. The axle-end joints are GIIRO dual-durometer bushings pressed into a 5/16" thick housing — free-pivoting, self-lubricating, self-centering, and maintenance-free, providing NVH isolation for on-road comfort and durability for off-road use. Installation & Fabrication Notes
- Welding required for crossmember installation — professional fabrication capability or access to a certified welder is required.
- Bolt the 3-piece crossmember into the OEM crossmember location for alignment before welding — the OEM bolt holes provide the correct positioning reference. Do not weld before confirming alignment.
- Weld the crossmember in place after confirming alignment per Clayton's installation instructions.
- The center section of the crossmember is removable after installation — drivetrain service can be performed without removing any suspension components.
- Install the upper and lower adjustable control arms and set initial length per Clayton's geometry specifications for your lift height.
- Set caster and pinion angle with the vehicle at ride height after full installation.
- Front alignment (caster, toe) must be verified after installation.
- Torque all control arm hardware at ride height, not at full droop or compression.
Wheel & Tire Fitment
Compatible with standard XJ wheel and tire combinations. Front long arm geometry affects suspension travel and tire clearance — verify clearance at full droop and full compression with your specific tire size and lift height after installation.
Engineering Question: What is your current lift height on the XJ? If you're running 6.5" or more of lift and want to go further with a 3-link front geometry for maximum articulation, see COR-4801513. Also confirm your front axle — if you're running an aftermarket front axle and plan to add the optional 3-link truss later, note that the 3-link truss (COR-4801513 kit) fits the stock Dana 30 only and will NOT work on aftermarket axles.
