The COR-5206921 is Clayton Off Road's heavy-duty aluminum tie rod bar for the 1999–2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ. The bar is machined from 1-3/8" solid 7075-T651 aluminum — a high-strength aerospace alloy with a tensile strength of approximately 83,000 PSI, significantly higher than the 6061-T6 aluminum used in many aftermarket bars and far stiffer than the factory stamped steel tie rod. The bar is drilled and tapped to accept OE-style end links, making installation a direct bolt-in replacement for the factory WJ tie rod and drag link without any bracket modification, knuckle drilling, or frame work. The 7075-T651 alloy's high strength-to-weight ratio provides the stiffness needed to resist the bending and flex that causes factory WJ tie rods to deform under trail load, while keeping weight lower than a comparable steel bar. Note: the factory WJ steering stabilizer mount is not compatible with this bar — an upgraded tie rod stabilizer mount is required, and Clayton recommends a Fox or Bilstein steering stabilizer for this application. Installation & Fabrication Notes
- Remove the factory WJ tie rod and drag link — retain the OE-style end links if reusing, or install new end links as required.
- Install this bar in the factory tie rod and drag link position using OE-style end links — no cutting, welding, or bracket modification required.
- Do not reinstall the factory steering stabilizer — it is not compatible with this bar. Install an upgraded tie rod stabilizer mount and a Fox or Bilstein steering stabilizer before driving.
- Torque all end link hardware to OE specification at ride height.
- Front alignment (toe) must be verified after installation — the bar length is fixed; adjust toe using the end link thread engagement.
- Inspect end link thread engagement after installation — minimum thread engagement must be maintained for safe operation.
Wheel & Tire Fitment
Compatible with standard WJ wheel and tire combinations. Tie rod bar length is fixed — toe adjustment is made via end link thread engagement. Verify toe alignment after installation with your specific tire size.
