Description
Fix the flex point. Kill the death wobble. Do it right.
The tie rod is the direct mechanical link between your steering knuckles. Every input you give the wheel travels through it — every road imperfection, every tow load, every high-speed correction. On a lifted Ram HD the OEM tie rod operates at angles it was never engineered for. The factory design loosens under sustained off-road vibration and shock loads. You feel it as vague steering, inconsistent response, and front-end wander that gets worse over time.
The Apex Chassis KIT386-STL is the complete fix. A massive 1.5" solid 4140 heat-treated chromoly steel bar with overbuilt 1.25" threaded shanks, ProLock high-misalignment ends, and black powdercoat finish — built specifically for the 2014–2026 Ram 2500 and 2013–2026 Ram 3500 4WD platform at 2–6" of lift. Gas and 6.7L Cummins diesel. When the front end needs to be right, this is how you do it right.

Why solid chromoly and not DOM tubing: The tie rod sits at the lowest, most vulnerable point of the Ram front axle — first to take a direct hit from a rock, stump, or highway debris. A hollow DOM tube can dent, crimp, and buckle under impact — a direct hit that kinks a hollow tube ruins your alignment instantly and toes your tires inward. The 1.5" solid 4140 chromoly bar takes that same hit, slides over the obstacle, and stays perfectly straight. The difference between driving home and calling a flatbed.
Why the 1.25" thread shanks matter: Factory Ram tie rod ends use 7/8" threaded shanks that flex and fatigue under the weight of heavy Cummins diesel engines and oversized tires — eventually wallowing out the steering knuckle holes and creating the deflection that triggers death wobble. Apex replaced them with 1.25" ultra-thick threaded shanks. That increase in cross-sectional mass eliminates the flex point entirely. It is the single most important upgrade in the KIT386-STL.

| Vehicle / Configuration | Reason | Correct Unit |
|---|---|---|
| 2013 Ram 2500 4WD | Retained legacy trailing-arm geometry — radius-arm update came one year later on 2500 | Contact us |

2013 year-split — critical: Ram updated the Ram 3500 to the radius-arm front suspension in 2013 — a full model year before the Ram 2500. This bar fits the 2013 Ram 3500 but will NOT bolt up to a 2013 Ram 2500 steering knuckle. If you have a 2013 Ram 2500, contact us for the correct older-generation SKU.
⚠️ Ram 3500 DRW owners: This unit fits Ram 3500 SRW only. Different track widths on the dually require a different SKU. Text (469) 407-7538 before ordering.
⚠️ Unsprung mass note: At 42 lbs this assembly adds meaningful unsprung mass compared to OEM. On stock or standard aftermarket lift kits this is a straightforward bolt-on upgrade. If you're running high-end custom race-valved shocks, verify your front-end valving settings before ordering.
Supporting mod requirements:
- Lifts 2–4": Direct bolt-on. No additional hardware required beyond the unit.
- Lifts exceeding 4": Track bar relocation bracket strongly recommended. Verify pitman arm drop compatibility before ordering.
- Complete steering system: Upgrading the tie rod while leaving a worn OEM drag link leaves the correction half-finished. Pair with KIT387-BLK or KIT387-POL for a complete front steering overhaul in one session.
Before You Buy — Questions We Get Asked
Q: Should I replace my tie rod and drag link at the same time?
Yes — and this is the most important recommendation for this platform. The tie rod controls toe-in/toe-out. The drag link connects the steering box to the axle. Upgrading to a solid chromoly tie rod while leaving a flexing OEM drag link means the steering correction is half-finished. Pair the KIT386-STL with the KIT387-BLK or KIT387-POL drag link for a completely locked Ram HD front steering system. Text us your build and we'll confirm the right combination before you order.
Q: Will this fix death wobble on my Ram 2500 or Ram 3500 Cummins?
The KIT386-STL attacks death wobble at its two primary mechanical sources — the 1.5" solid chromoly bar eliminates the torsional flex of the hollow OEM tube, and the 1.25" thread shanks eliminate the joint deflection that allows the wobble feedback loop to start. Pair it with the KIT387-BLK drag link, fresh ball joints, and a proper alignment for a complete front-end fix.
Q: Why solid chromoly steel instead of aluminum on the tie rod?
The tie rod occupies the lowest, most exposed position on the front axle — it takes direct hits from rocks, stumps, and trail debris that the drag link never sees. Aluminum's flex memory is an asset on the drag link where impacts are less direct. On the tie rod, where a single hard impact can crimp a hollow tube and immediately ruin alignment, solid 4140 chromoly is the correct material. It takes the hit, stays straight, and you drive home.
Q: How hard is this install and what will I need?
Intermediate difficulty. Standard hand tools, a torque wrench, and a floor jack are required. A full front-end alignment — toe, caster, and camber — immediately after installation is mandatory. ProLock jam nuts must be torqued to Apex specification to fully engage the keyway locking feature — under-torquing prevents the system from locking. Budget one garage session for the swap and one same-day alignment appointment.
The Obsidian Take
The KIT386-STL is the right call for the Ram HD owner who needs the tie rod to handle direct impact and sustained load without compromise. The 1.5" solid 4140 chromoly construction sits at the lowest point of the front axle and takes the hits that no other steering component faces — rocks, stumps, highway debris at speed. Hollow tubes crimp and ruin alignment on contact. Solid chromoly slides over and stays straight. The 1.25" ultra-thick threaded shanks eliminate the flex point that wallows out steering knuckle holes and triggers the death wobble feedback loop on Cummins diesel builds running heavy tire packages. At 42 lbs it is a seriously heavy-duty assembly — that weight is the solid chromoly doing its job. The ProLock system locks alignment under sustained towing load and trail vibration. One alignment appointment and the front-end flex problem is resolved with a component built to outlast the truck.
This unit is not for 2013 Ram 2500 owners — the radius-arm suspension update came one year later on the 2500 than the 3500 and this bar will not bolt to your knuckle. Contact us for the correct SKU. It is not for Ram 3500 dually owners — text us and we'll confirm the right unit. If you're running highly customized race-valved shocks, verify front-end valving for the added unsprung mass before ordering. And if your drag link is also OEM, do not stop here — the KIT385-BLK complete master kit bundles both components for one session and one alignment fee. Doing the tie rod without addressing the drag link is a half-finished job.
