Description
Two decades of Super Duty. One tie rod that fits all of them.
Whether you're running an early P221 or the latest P702, the problem is exactly the same. A lifted F-250 or F-350 on big tires puts demands on the factory tie rod that the OEM design was never engineered to handle. The flex, the deflection, the bump steer that shows up after the lift goes on and the tire size goes up — it's the same story across every Super Duty generation because Ford built the tie rod for stock height and stock tires on every single one of them.
The Apex Chassis KIT372-STL is the fix for all of it. A massive 1.5" solid high-strength steel tie rod with ProLock high-misalignment ends and 1.25" ultra-thick threaded shanks — engineered to cover all three Ford Super Duty generations in a single SKU. P221 (2005–2016), P558 (2017–2022), and P702 (2023–2026). One part number. Every generation. Done right.

Why one tie rod covers all three generations — but drag links don't: Ford's front knuckle tie rod mounting points maintained consistent geometry across P221, P558, and P702 — while the drag link geometry changed significantly with each platform update. The tie rod connects knuckle-to-knuckle and that interface remained dimensionally consistent across 2005–2026. The drag link connects the steering box to the axle — and that geometry changed between generations. Confirm your companion drag link by year before ordering.
Why solid steel and not DOM tubing: The tie rod sits at the lowest point of the front axle where it takes direct hits from rocks, stumps, and highway debris. A hollow DOM tube can dent or crimp on impact — instantly ruining your alignment and toeing your tires inward. The 1.5" solid high-strength steel bar takes that same hit, slides over the obstacle, and stays perfectly straight. The difference between driving home and calling a flatbed.
Why the 1.25" thread shanks matter: Factory Ford tie rod ends use thin threaded shanks that flex and fatigue under the weight of heavy Powerstroke diesel engines and wide aftermarket wheel offsets — allowing front-end oscillation and death wobble to develop. Apex replaced them with 1.25" ultra-thick threaded shanks. That increase in cross-sectional mass eliminates the flex point entirely. No deflection. No oscillation. No death wobble trigger.

Drag link pairing — generation-specific: This tie rod covers all three Super Duty generations in one SKU. Your drag link does not. Ford updated the steering box geometry between generations — confirm you have the correct companion drag link before ordering. For 2005–2016: KIT371-BLK or KIT371-POL. For 2017–2026: KIT373-BLK. Text (469) 407-7538 with your year and we'll confirm your complete package.
Supporting mod requirements:
- Lifts 2–4": Direct bolt-on. No additional hardware required beyond the unit.
- Lifts exceeding 4": Track bar relocation bracket strongly recommended. Verify pitman arm drop compatibility before ordering.
- Complete steering system: This unit addresses the tie rod only. For a full front steering overhaul pair with the correct generation drag link. Text us your build and we'll map the complete package.
Before You Buy — Questions We Get Asked
Q: Why does one tie rod fit all three Super Duty generations when the drag link is different?
Ford's front knuckle tie rod mounting points maintained consistent geometry across all three platform generations — P221, P558, and P702 — while the drag link geometry changed with each platform update. The tie rod connects knuckle-to-knuckle and that interface remained dimensionally consistent across 2005–2026. The drag link connects the steering box to the axle, and that geometry changed significantly between P221 and P558/P702 — which is why separate drag link SKUs are required by generation.
Q: Does this fit my F-350 dually?
Yes — SRW and DRW both confirmed across all three generations 2005–2026. F-450 and F-550 wide-track commercial chassis are not compatible. Confirm 4WD before ordering.
Q: Which drag link do I need to pair with this?
Depends on your year. For 2005–2016 Super Duty: KIT371-BLK in black powdercoat or KIT371-POL in polished aluminum. For 2017–2026 Super Duty: KIT373-BLK. Text (469) 407-7538 with your year and we'll confirm the right combination for your build before it ships.
Q: How hard is this install and what will I need?
Intermediate difficulty. Standard hand tools, a torque wrench, and a floor jack are required. A full front-end alignment — caster, camber, and toe — immediately after installation is mandatory. At 39 lbs, verify shock valving is appropriate for the added unsprung mass if running heavily modified suspension. ProLock jam nuts must be torqued to Apex specification to fully engage the keyway locking feature. Budget one garage session and one same-day alignment appointment.
The Obsidian Take
The KIT372-STL is the simplest answer to the most common Super Duty steering question — which tie rod do I need for my year. The answer is this one, regardless of whether you're on a 2005 P221 or a 2026 P702. Ford kept the front knuckle tie rod mounting geometry consistent across all three platform generations and Apex engineered to that consistency. The 1.5" solid high-strength forged steel bar handles direct rock and trail impacts that hollow DOM tubes can't — dents crimp and ruin alignment on contact, solid steel slides over and stays true. The 1.25" ultra-thick threaded shanks eliminate the factory shank flex that triggers front-end oscillation and death wobble on Powerstroke-equipped trucks running wide wheel packages. The ProLock system locks alignment under maximum commercial towing load and rough highway. SRW and DRW both confirmed across all 22 model years. One part number. Every generation. Done.
This unit is not for F-450 or F-550 owners — the wide-track commercial chassis uses different geometry entirely. It is not for 2WD Super Duty owners — independent front suspension on 2WD does not use a solid front axle tie rod assembly. It is not a complete steering overhaul on its own — your drag link is the other half of the system and it is generation-specific. For 2005–2016 pair with KIT371-BLK or KIT371-POL. For 2017–2026 pair with KIT373-BLK. Text (469) 407-7538 with your year and lift height and we'll confirm the complete package before it ships.
