You Committed to the High-Steer Conversion. The Steering Kit Has to Match.
A high-steer knuckle conversion on a Dana 44 JL, JLU, or Gladiator JT changes the geometry of the entire front steering track. Moving the drag link mounting point above the passenger knuckle eliminates the bump steer that standard geometry introduces at aggressive lift heights — but only if the steering linkage is engineered from scratch to work with that flipped geometry, not against it.
The Apex Chassis KIT125-Dana44-YesFlip is the polished aluminum complete solution for wide-track Dana 44 builds running high-steer knuckle conversions at 3.5–6"+ of lift. Dual-diameter solid 7075-T6 aluminum — 2" tie rod, 1.75" drag link — over-knuckle flip geometry, Internal Flopper Stoppers™, integrated double-adjuster, and a mirror finish. The choice when the build standard applies to everything underneath.
The Obsidian Take
The KIT125-Dana44-YesFlip is the polished aluminum version of the Dana 44 high-steer flip lineup — delivering the same geometry correction as the steel flip kit in a premium aircraft-grade aluminum construction that drops critical front axle weight and anchors your steering track with a mirror finish.
The 2" x 1.75" split — both diameters matter:
The main tie rod is machine-cut from a massive 2.0" diameter solid 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum rod. Because aluminum has a different modulus of elasticity than steel, scaling the cross-section up to a full 2" is what gives this bar the structural yield capacity of solid high-tensile steel — matching the load resistance across the knuckle-to-knuckle span where lateral forces are highest.
The upper drag link is machine-cut from a 1.75" diameter solid 7075-T6 rod — stepped down from the tie rod to provide the exact clearance profile needed to cycle past the frame rails and track bar drop brackets during extreme suspension compression without contact.
At 44 lbs combined — 8.5 lbs lighter than steel equivalents — the unsprung weight savings are directly measurable. Less unsprung mass means your suspension dampers respond faster to high-speed road inputs, tracking with superior compliance on 37" or 40" tire packages. It also reduces the rotational load on your factory electric-hydraulic (EHPS) steering motor — protecting steering box electronics from the premature heat fatigue that heavy steel linkage causes over time. 7075-T6 also features native flex memory — the bars deflect to absorb a harsh trail impact and snap back to their original profile.
The engineering details that separate this from generic high-steer linkage:
The ProLock™ system physically locks your alignment — precision-machined keyway washers, dual-thread jam nuts with 3 integrated set screws on the wrench flats. Your toe settings cannot walk or shake loose on severe washboards or under maximum towing loads.
The Internal Flopper Stoppers™ are built directly inside the forged joint housings. Standard aftermarket steering on lifted Jeeps suffers from tie-rod roll — the steering box sector shaft force causes the main bars to rotate forward and backward on their ball studs before actually turning the tires, creating the vague dead spot in the steering wheel that lifted Wrangler owners know too well. The internal stoppers physically block forward and aft deflection to 2 degrees while leaving a full 27 degrees of lateral stud swing for suspension articulation. No dead spot. No slop. Immediate response.
The integrated hex double-adjuster sleeve on the tie rod lets your alignment tech dial in perfect toe metrics directly on the rack without ever disconnecting a joint from the knuckle. Alignment labor time cut in half.
Honest material comparison:
For extreme rock crawling where the steering links will be repeatedly dragged over boulder shelves — the heavy-wall DOM steel KIT115-Dana44-YesFlip is the correct tool. Steel handles direct impact stress that aluminum cannot. For overland builds, trail explorers, and daily-driven high-lift builds where steering responsiveness, unsprung weight reduction, and show-quality aesthetics are the priority — this polished aluminum flip kit is the right choice.
Black aluminum alternative: KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip — identical flip geometry and construction in black powdercoat. Same performance, different finish.
⚠️ CRITICAL COMPATIBILITY WARNINGS — Read Before Ordering:
3.5" Minimum Lift Required: Flip geometry above the knuckle strictly requires a minimum of 3.5" of suspension lift. At less than 3.5", the drag link will violently contact the passenger-side frame rail during suspension compression. Do not order this kit for any build under 3.5" of lift.
High-Steer Knuckles Mandatory: This kit mounts over the knuckle. Engineered exclusively for wide-track Dana 44 builds with aftermarket high-steer knuckle conversions (Dynatrac, RockJock, Synergy, etc.). For standard lower-mount knuckles, order KIT125-Dana44-NoFlip.
17" Wheel / 4.5" Max Backspacing: Due to the oversized 2.5-ton joint housing profile, this kit requires a minimum 17" wheel diameter with 4.5" backspacing or less. Factory Rubicon and Sahara wheels run approximately 6.0" backspacing and will not clear.
Wide-Track Dana 44 (M210) Only: Fits Rubicon, Mojave, 4xe, 392 HEMI, and 2024+ Willys models. Does NOT fit standard-track Dana 30 Sport/Sport S trims.
Knuckle machining: Review your high-steer knuckle manufacturer's data sheet before assembly. Certain high-steer blocks require drilling the taper insert mount to a straight 7/8" diameter to accept the flip taper sleeve.

Before You Order — 4 Fitment Checkpoints
1. Lift height (Critical): Minimum 3.5" of suspension lift required. Under 3.5" — drag link contacts frame rail on compression. Cannot be safely installed on any build under 3.5".
2. High-steer conversion confirmed: Your Dana 44 must have an operational high-steer knuckle conversion. Confirm your knuckle brand is compatible with this kit's flip geometry. Text us your knuckle brand before ordering if unsure.
3. Axle and trim: Wide-track Dana 44 (M210) only. Sport and Sport S with Dana 30 need the Dana 30 flip kit. Rubicon, Sahara, 4xe, Mojave, 2024+ Willys, and Max-Tow Gladiator confirmed.
4. Wheel backspacing: Minimum 17" with 4.5" or less backspacing. Factory Rubicon and Sahara wheels run ~6.0" backspacing and will not clear. Aftermarket wheels or quality spacers required.
Installation Notes
Advanced-level install. Professional installation and alignment are non-negotiable.
- Alignment mandatory: Full front-end alignment — caster, camber, and toe — required. Do not drive until alignment is complete. Crooked steering wheel will trip the Jeep's ESC traction warning light.
- 3.5" minimum confirmed: Verify lift height before installation. Under 3.5" — frame contact will occur.
- Knuckle machining: Review your high-steer knuckle manufacturer's data sheet. Certain high-steer blocks require drilling the taper mount to 7/8" straight bore to accept the flip taper sleeve.
- Double-adjuster lockdown: Ensure alignment tech fully torques ProLock jam nuts after toe is set to lock the hex sleeve in place.
- Caster correction: High-steer conversions at aggressive lift heights frequently require caster correction. Verify post-installation.
Installation Warning: Installing on OEM or standard knuckles without a high-steer conversion will result in unsafe drag link geometry. Do not install on any build under 3.5" of lift — frame contact will occur. Do not drive until full alignment is complete. Once installed, this unit is non-returnable.
Questions We Get Asked
Why does the tie rod use a 2" diameter but the drag link uses 1.75"? The lower tie rod runs knuckle-to-knuckle across the front of the axle beam where lateral impact loads are highest — the 2.0" solid aluminum cross-section is what gives it the structural yield strength equivalent to solid steel. The upper drag link operates near the tight clearances of the frame rail and sway bar mounts — the 1.75" diameter delivers the structural rigidity needed while clearing those frame components at full articulation.
What are the Internal Flopper Stoppers™? Built directly inside the forged joint housings — not external rubber stops. They allow a full 27 degrees of lateral ball stud swing for suspension articulation while limiting forward and aft deflection to just 2 degrees. This eliminates the steering dead zone on lifted Jeeps where the bars rotate on their ball studs before the tires actually respond to steering input.
What's the difference between KIT125-Dana44-YesFlip and KIT115-Dana44-YesFlip? Same wide Dana 44 platform, same flip geometry, same 3.5" minimum lift. The KIT125 is 2" x 1.75" solid 7075-T6 polished aluminum at 44 lbs — reduced unsprung weight, mirror finish, flex memory, EHPS motor protection. The KIT115 is 1.75" DOM steel — maximum impact resistance for rock crawling where the linkage takes direct boulder hits. Trail builds choose aluminum. Rock crawlers choose steel.
What's the difference between KIT125-Dana44-YesFlip and KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip? Identical flip geometry, identical platform, nearly identical weight. The KIT125 is raw polished mirror aluminum. The KIT120 is black powdercoat aluminum. Same performance. Choose based on build aesthetic.
Will this clear my factory Rubicon 17" wheels? No. Factory Rubicon wheels run approximately 6.0" backspacing — the inner barrel will contact the 2.5-ton joint housings at full steering lock. You need aftermarket wheels at 4.5" or less backspacing, or quality wheel spacers.
