Description
Brand: Apex Chassis | SKU: KIT120-Dana44-NoFlip | Configuration: 2.5-Ton Black Anodized Aluminum Tie Rod + Drag Link | Axle: Wide-Track Dana 44 (M210) Specific | Lift Range: 2–6" | Free Shipping | Affirm & Afterpay Available
The Rubicon Doesn't Need to Announce Itself. Neither Does Its Steering.
Some builds go understated. The hard black anodized finish is the choice for the Rubicon, Sahara, 4xe, or Mojave owner who wants the handling benefits of front-axle mass reduction without the maintenance schedule of a polished mirror finish — and without the visual loudness of raw chrome components under a vehicle that earns its miles on the trail.
The factory tie rod and drag link don't belong on a lifted JL, JLU, or Gladiator running real tires. At 2–6 inches of lift with 35s or 37s, the weak factory linkages flex and deflect under load — killing steering precision, introducing bump steer, and feeding the steering wheel slop that makes a capable rig feel unfinished on the highway.
The Apex Chassis KIT120-Dana44-NoFlip is the comprehensive correction. A complete 2.5-ton split-diameter solid 7075-T6 aluminum steering overhaul — 2.0" tie rod, 1.75" drag link, proprietary joints with Internal Flopper Stoppers™, an integrated hex double-adjuster sleeve, and a hard anodized finish engineered for the wide-track Dana 44 (M210) front axle on the 2018–2026 JL/JLU and 2019–2026 Gladiator JT.
The Obsidian Take
Three finish variants exist for the Apex Dana 44 standard no-flip steering lineup — black anodized (this kit), polished mirror (KIT125-Dana44-NoFlip), and heavy-wall DOM steel (KIT115-Dana44-NoFlip). The KIT120-Dana44-NoFlip is the stealth version — delivering the handling dynamics of aluminum unsprung weight reduction with a surface treatment optimized for harsh, long-term environmental protection.
Hard anodizing is an electrochemical surface treatment that converts the outer layer of the aluminum itself into aluminum oxide armor — fused into the rod, not sitting on top of it. Unlike powdercoat that chips and exposes bare metal, an anodized surface cannot peel or flake. For a Jeep that sees brutal trail environments, winter road salt, and thick mud, this guarantees maintenance-free longevity that polished aluminum cannot match without upkeep.
The 2" x 1.75" split — why both diameters matter:
The main tie rod is machine-cut from a massive 2.0" diameter solid 7075-T6 aluminum rod. Because aluminum has a different modulus of elasticity than steel, scaling the cross-section to a full 2" is what gives this bar the structural yield capacity of solid high-tensile steel across the knuckle-to-knuckle span where lateral forces are highest.
The upper drag link is machine-cut from an overbuilt 1.75" diameter solid 7075-T6 rod — stepped down slightly to provide the clearance envelope needed to cycle past the frame rails and track bar drop brackets without contact during hard off-road compression.
At 44.0 lbs combined — 8.5 lbs lighter than the steel KIT115-Dana44-NoFlip — the unsprung weight savings are directly measurable. Less front axle mass means faster suspension response and improved tracking compliance on heavy tire packages. 7075-T6 also features native flex memory — the bars absorb impacts and spring back to their original profile.
The Internal Flopper Stoppers™ are built directly inside the forged joint housings — not external rubber stops. Standard aftermarket steering on lifted Jeeps suffers from tie-rod roll where the bars rotate on their ball studs before the tires respond, creating a dead zone in the steering wheel. The internal stoppers physically block forward and aft deflection to 2 degrees while leaving a full 27 degrees of lateral swing for suspension articulation. Immediate response. No dead zone.
The rod ends thread directly into the solid aluminum bars via massive 1.25" ultra-thick left and right hand threaded shanks — housed inside hot-forged SAE 1045 solid steel housings with induction-heat-treated SAE 4140 chromoly ball studs. The integrated Heavy-Duty Hex Double-Adjuster Sleeve on the tie rod lets your alignment tech dial in perfect toe metrics directly on the rack without ever disconnecting a joint from the knuckle.
This is the standard no-flip kit. Engineered for OEM knuckles and mild aftermarket knuckles without a high-steer conversion. High-steer knuckles require KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip.
⚠️ CRITICAL COMPATIBILITY WARNINGS — Read Before Ordering:
Wide Dana 44 (M210) Only: Fits Rubicon, Sahara, 4xe, Mojave, and Gladiator Dana 44 trims. Does NOT fit Dana 30 Sport or Sport S trims — order KIT120-Dana30-NoFlip instead.
High-Steer Conversions: NOT compatible with high-steer knuckle conversions. Use KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip for all high-steer applications.
17" Wheel / 4.5" Max Backspacing: Requires minimum 17" wheel diameter with 4.5" backspacing or less. Factory Rubicon wheels at ~6.0" backspacing will not clear. Aftermarket wheels or quality spacers required.

Before You Order — 4 Fitment Checkpoints
1. Axle confirmation (Critical): Wide-track Dana 44 (M210) only — Rubicon, Sahara, 4xe, Mojave, and Gladiator Dana 44 trims. Sport and Sport S with Dana 30 — order KIT120-Dana30-NoFlip. Text us your VIN if unsure.
2. Wheel backspacing: Minimum 17" with 4.5" or less backspacing. Factory Rubicon wheels at ~6.0" backspacing will not clear. Aftermarket wheels or quality spacers required.
3. Knuckle configuration: Standard no-flip geometry only — OEM or mild aftermarket knuckles without high-steer conversion. High-steer knuckles require KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip.
4. Finish selection: Black anodized is the zero-maintenance choice for trail and daily use. For show-quality mirror finish — KIT125-Dana44-NoFlip. For maximum rock crawl impact resistance — KIT115-Dana44-NoFlip steel.
Installation Notes
Intermediate-level install. Both components replaced simultaneously — professional alignment immediately after is mandatory.
- Alignment mandatory: Full front-end alignment — caster, camber, and toe — required. Do not drive until aligned. Failure to center the steering wheel will trip the Jeep's ESC traction warning light.
- Hardware torque: Torque all jam nuts and castle nuts to exact specifications on the included Apex install sheet. Install all cotter pins.
- High-steer caveat: Installing the no-flip kit on high-steer knuckles will result in incorrect drag link angle and unsafe steering geometry. Use KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip instead.
- Caster correction: On lifts exceeding 3", adjustable control arms or a caster correction kit is recommended.
Installation Warning: Installing on high-steer knuckles will result in unsafe steering geometry — use KIT120-Dana44-YesFlip. Installing on a Dana 30 axle will result in geometry incompatibility — use KIT120-Dana30-NoFlip. Do not drive until full alignment is complete. Once installed, non-returnable.
Questions We Get Asked
What's the difference between KIT120-Dana44-NoFlip and KIT125-Dana44-NoFlip? Mechanically and dimensionally identical — same 2.0" x 1.75" solid 7075-T6 bars, same 1.25" threaded shanks, same Flopper Stoppers and double-adjuster. The KIT120 is hard black anodized — zero maintenance, corrosion protection fused into the aluminum surface. The KIT125 is raw polished mirror aluminum — show-quality finish, occasional polish required. Same performance. Choose based on your build aesthetic and use case.
What's the difference between black anodized and black powdercoat? Powdercoat sits on top of the aluminum and can chip under trail impact, exposing bare metal. Anodizing converts the outer layer of the aluminum itself into aluminum oxide — fused into the surface, cannot chip or peel. For trail use and real-world conditions, anodizing provides more durable long-term protection.
Why does the tie rod use 2.0" but the drag link uses 1.75"? The tie rod runs knuckle-to-knuckle across the lower axle beam where lateral forces are highest — 2.0" is required to match the structural yield strength of high-tensile steel at this span. The drag link operates near the frame rail and sway bar mounts — the 1.75" diameter delivers elite structural rigidity while clearing those tight frame components at full compression.
Does this fit my Gladiator Sport? Depends. Gladiator Sport without Max-Tow package runs Dana 30 — order KIT120-Dana30-NoFlip. Gladiator Sport with Max-Tow runs Dana 44 — this kit fits. Check your build sheet or text us your VIN.
What are the Internal Flopper Stoppers™? Built directly inside the forged joint housings — 27 degrees of lateral stud swing for articulation, 2 degrees of forward/aft deflection. Permanently eliminates the steering wheel dead zone where bars rotate on ball studs before tires respond to input.
