Description
Zone Offroad 2-Inch Torsion Key Leveling Kit | 1997–2003 Ford F-150 4WD | SKU: F78
Is This for You?
This kit is for the 1997–2003 Ford F-150 4WD owner who wants to eliminate the factory nose-down rake and level the truck front-to-rear with a 2-inch front lift. The 1997–2003 F-150 4WD uses a torsion bar front suspension — forged replacement torsion keys recalibrate the torsion bar indexing for a controlled 2-inch front lift without spacers, shock replacement, or geometry modification. If your F-150 is 2WD, this kit will not fit — the 2WD uses a twin I-beam front suspension, not torsion bars. If your F-150 is a 2004 or newer model, this kit will not fit — the 2004+ F-150 uses a coil-over strut front suspension.
The Result
The Zone Offroad F78 raises the front of the 1997–2003 F-150 4WD by 2 inches via forged replacement torsion keys that index the torsion bar at a higher preload position than the factory keys. The rear height is unchanged. The result is a level stance front-to-rear, eliminating the factory nose-down rake. Direct bolt-on installation — no cutting, welding, or suspension modification required beyond torsion key replacement and adjuster bolt calibration.
Verified Fitment (OFAS Standard)
- 1997–2003 Ford F-150 4WD — Torsion Bar Front Suspension ✓
- Does NOT fit: 1997–2003 Ford F-150 2WD — twin I-beam front suspension, not torsion bar
- Does NOT fit: 2004 or newer Ford F-150 — coil-over strut front suspension, different leveling method required
- Does NOT fit: Ford F-250 or F-350 — incompatible platform
Torsion Key Leveling — How It Works
- The 1997–2003 F-150 4WD uses torsion bars as the front spring medium. Factory torsion keys index the torsion bar at a preload position that creates a slight nose-down rake from the factory.
- Zone Offroad forged replacement keys index the torsion bar at a higher preload position — raising the front 2 inches without adding spacers, replacing shocks, or modifying suspension geometry.
- After key installation, the torsion bar adjuster bolt is calibrated to achieve the desired 2-inch lift per Zone Offroad instructions included with the kit.
Leveling Kit vs. Lift Kit
- Leveling kit (F78, this listing): Front +2 inches only — rear unchanged — truck sits level — bolt-on torsion key replacement
- Lift kit: Raises the entire vehicle front and rear — significantly higher price point and complexity

- Front alignment recommended post-installation to verify caster and camber are within spec at the new ride height.
- After key installation, calibrate the torsion bar adjuster bolt per Zone Offroad instructions to achieve the desired 2-inch lift.
- Verify tire and wheel clearance with your specific offset and tire combination after installation.
Engineering Question: Have you confirmed your F-150 is a 1997–2003 4WD model with torsion bar front suspension? 2WD owners — twin I-beam suspension, this kit does not apply. 2004 or newer F-150 owners — coil-over strut suspension, a different leveling method is required.
