Description
Is This for You?
- You're running a Factor 55 UltraHook and want to protect the exposed synthetic rope at the connection point from UV degradation, abrasion damage, and impact — the three primary failure modes for synthetic rope at the fairlead interface during storage and trail use.
- You climb vertical obstacles — the Rope Guard is designed to function as a skid surface when the winch hook connection point contacts a ledge or obstacle face, positioning all exposed synthetic rope behind the guard and fairlead so the aluminum takes the abrasion, not the rope.
- You want a DIY install with no drilling — 4 drive rivets, a 1/4" punch, and a hammer. The Rope Guard installs directly onto the UltraHook body using the existing rubber pad mounting points.
The Result
- Complete synthetic rope protection at the UltraHook connection point — all exposed rope surfaces are positioned behind the guard and fairlead when the Rope Guard is installed, shielding them from UV, abrasion, and impact.
- Skid surface capability — the guard face contacts the obstacle instead of the rope when climbing vertical features, allowing the winch line to pull without the rope dragging across rock, metal, or concrete.
- Kaiser billet 6000 series aluminum with clear anodize — corrosion resistant, dimensionally stable, and hard enough to function as a skid surface under repeated obstacle contact.
UV degradation is cumulative and invisible until the rope fails — HMPE and Dyneema fibers lose tensile strength with prolonged UV exposure, and the connection point at the UltraHook is the highest-stress location in the winch line system. The Rope Guard addresses this by covering the exposed rope surfaces at the UltraHook connection, positioning them behind the guard plate and fairlead. When the truck contacts a vertical obstacle during a climb, the guard face — Kaiser billet 6000 series aluminum — becomes the skid surface. The 6000 series aluminum alloy provides the hardness and structural rigidity required to withstand repeated obstacle contact without deforming in a way that would expose the rope behind it. Clear anodize provides corrosion protection without altering the dimensional fit of the guard on the UltraHook body. Installation uses 4 drive rivets driven with a 1/4" punch and hammer — no drilling, no tapping, no special tooling required beyond standard hand tools. Engineered and made in the USA.

Verified Compatibility
✔ Factor 55 UltraHook — all versions
✘ Does NOT fit: Factor 55 FlatLink, Flat Splicer, or FlatLink Multimount — see FlatLink Rope Guard (00380) for those products
✘ Does NOT fit: Factor 55 ProLink or other non-UltraHook products — mounting geometry is UltraHook-specific
Installation Instructions
- Remove the UltraHook from your winch line before beginning installation.
- Remove all rubber pieces from the UltraHook. Use a flat blade screwdriver to pop out the rubber barbs from their mounting holes.
- Position the Rope Guard on the UltraHook body. Hold the rubber pad surface flat against a wood surface for one side of the rivet installation to provide backing support.
- Insert the 4 included drive rivets into the mounting holes.
- Using a 1/4" punch and hammer, drive the rivet posts down until the posts are flush with the top of the rivet head.
- Pivot the UltraHook to the other surface and complete the remaining rivet installation in the same manner.
- Reinstall two of the rubber pads on the opposing side. Lubricate the barbs before reinstalling to ease insertion.
- Reinstall the UltraHook on your winch line.
Engineering Question: Are you running the UltraHook, and are you primarily adding the Rope Guard for UV protection during storage, abrasion protection during trail use, or skid surface capability on vertical obstacles? Confirm your UltraHook variant before ordering — this guard is UltraHook-specific and does not fit FlatLink series products (see 00380 for FlatLink).
