Description
Is This for You?
- You're running a heavy full-size truck, an SUV or truck loaded with a heavy trailer, or a utility truck with a GVW between 12,000–20,000 lbs — and you need a soft shackle rated to match: 102,500 lb MBS, 20,500 lb WLL, 5/8" HMPE Plasma rope construction, made and tested in the USA.
- You're replacing steel screw pin shackles in a heavy-duty recovery or rigging configuration with a lightweight HMPE alternative that eliminates the projectile hazard of a steel shackle failure under load — and delivers 25–30% higher breaking strength than standard soft shackles at this diameter.
- You're running Closed System Winching® or building a closed-link rigging system for heavy recovery — this shackle is compatible with Factor 55's Closed System Winching technique and rated for the load range that heavy full-size trucks and utility vehicles generate.
The Result
- 102,500 lb MBS / 20,500 lb WLL — a 5:1 safety factor, rated for vehicles with GVW between 12,000–20,000 lbs in heavy full-size truck, loaded trailer, and utility vehicle recovery applications.
- 25–30% higher verified breaking strength than standard soft shackles at this diameter — lab- and field-tested to consistent, repeatable MBS values.
- HMPE Plasma rope core with woven polyester jacket, Fiber Lock coating, and whipped ends — abrasion and UV protection extended as close to the knot as possible, where unprotected soft shackles fail first.
At 5/8" diameter, this shackle occupies the load range between the light-duty 3/8" recreational shackles (00066/00067) and the heavy industrial 1-1/8" mining/military shackle (00572). The 12,000–20,000 lb GVW range covers heavy full-size trucks — loaded 3/4-ton and 1-ton pickups, SUVs towing heavy trailers, and utility trucks — where the 3/8" shackle's 8,700 lb WLL is undersized and the 1-1/8" shackle's 58,000 lb WLL is overspecified. The HMPE Plasma rope core has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than steel wire rope of equivalent diameter, does not corrode, and does not store kinetic energy under tension. When a steel shackle fails under load, the stored elastic energy releases as a high-velocity projectile. An HMPE soft shackle falls to the ground on failure — a critical safety distinction in any recovery scenario where personnel are near the rigging. The woven polyester jacket is whipped and coated with Fiber Lock resin, attached as close to the knot as possible — the knot is the highest-stress and highest-abrasion point in a soft shackle under load. Standard soft shackles leave the knot area unprotected; this design extends jacket coverage to that zone. The 25–30% breaking strength advantage over standard market soft shackles is a function of both the HMPE Plasma rope specification and the knot geometry — Factor 55 lab- and field-tests to consistent, repeatable MBS values.

Factor 55 Soft Shackle Size Selection Guide
- 3/8" x 10" (00066): Jeep, mid-size truck, SUV, UTV — up to 8,500 lb GVW — 43,500 lb MBS
- 3/8" x 20" (00067): Same GVW range with double-loop capability — exceeds 70,000 lb MBS double-looped
- 5/8" x 18" (00570): Heavy full-size truck, loaded trailer, utility truck — 12,000–20,000 lb GVW — 102,500 lb MBS ← This product
- 1-1/8" x 24" (00572): Mining, agriculture, military — 35,000–55,000 lb GVW — 294,000 lb MBS
Compatibility
✔ Heavy full-size trucks — GVW 12,000–20,000 lbs
✔ SUVs and trucks loaded with heavy trailers — GVW 12,000–20,000 lbs
✔ Utility trucks — GVW 12,000–20,000 lbs
✔ Factor 55 Closed System Winching® rigging configurations
✔ Direct replacement for steel screw pin shackles in heavy-duty recovery rigging
✘ Not designed for: Vehicles under 12,000 lbs GVW — see 3/8" soft shackles (00066/00067) for light-duty applications
✘ Not designed for: Vehicles exceeding 20,000 lbs GVW — see 1-1/8" soft shackle (00572) for mining/ag/military applications
✘ Not a substitute for: Static tow connections — soft shackles are recovery rigging hardware, not flat-tow connectors
Usage Notes
- Inspect shackle before each use. Do not use a soft shackle with visible cuts, abrasion damage through the jacket to the core, or knot deformation.
- Do not exceed the published WLL of 20,500 lbs under any load condition.
- Keep shackle away from sharp edges under load — the jacket provides abrasion resistance but direct contact with sharp metal edges under tension will damage the core.
- Compatible with Closed System Winching® — verify all other rigging components in the system are also closed-link hardware before executing a closed system recovery.
- Store out of direct UV exposure when not in use.
Engineering Question: What is your vehicle's GVW — loaded or unloaded — and are you replacing steel screw pin shackles in a heavy full-size truck or utility vehicle recovery configuration? The 5/8" shackle is rated for 12,000–20,000 lb GVW. If your GVW is under 12,000 lbs, see the 3/8" versions (00066/00067). If your GVW exceeds 20,000 lbs, see the 1-1/8" version (00572).
