Description
The Obsidian Vision
GM heavy-duty trucks have carried an inherent steering feedback problem since the GMT900 platform launched in 2011 — a combination of center-link compliance, pitman and idler arm wear, and an undersized factory steering stabilizer that allows road shock, shimmy, and bump steer to transmit directly through the steering wheel under the loads generated by lifted suspension, larger tires, and heavy towing. The Cognito 2.0 IFP Steering Stabilizer Kit addresses the damping side of that equation with a premium 2.0 IFP steering stabilizer and a purpose-built mounting kit that is bolt-on compatible with the Cognito Pitman and Idler Arm Support Kit and the Cognito Extreme Duty Center Link — the complete Cognito steering system that eliminates all three failure modes simultaneously. For 2016 and newer trucks, installation requires no cutting, no drilling, and no welding. For 2011–2015 trucks, the OEM frame clevis tabs must be cut off before installation. Either way, the result is the same: top-of-the-line steering feel and feedback reduction for the toughest applications on the 2011–2026 GM 2500HD/3500HD platform.

Engineering Breakdown
- Reduces road feedback, shimmy, and bump steer transmitted through the steering wheel on 2011–2026 Silverado/Sierra 2500HD/3500HD by adding a 2.0 IFP steering stabilizer that damps the lateral and longitudinal shock loads generated by lifted suspension, larger tires, and heavy towing before they reach the steering column and wheel.
- Integrates bolt-on with the Cognito Pitman and Idler Arm Support Kit and the Cognito Extreme Duty Center Link kit — the complete Cognito steering system — without modification to either component, allowing the stabilizer to be added to an existing Cognito steering build or installed as part of a new complete steering system upgrade.
- Eliminates the OEM steering stabilizer's undersized damping capacity, which is insufficient to control the increased steering system loads generated by lifted suspension geometry, larger tire rotating mass, and the road forces transmitted through a heavy-duty front axle at elevated ride heights and tow weights.
The Cognito 2.0 IFP (Internal Floating Piston) steering stabilizer uses a 2.0-inch body diameter with an internal floating piston that separates the oil and nitrogen gas charges — preventing oil aeration and maintaining consistent damping force throughout the stabilizer's stroke, regardless of operating temperature or duty cycle. This is the same IFP architecture used in performance off-road shock absorbers, applied to the steering stabilizer application where consistent damping force is critical for preventing shimmy and maintaining on-center steering feel under the variable loads generated by a lifted heavy-duty truck. The mounting kit is engineered to position the stabilizer in the correct geometric relationship to the center link and drag link, ensuring the stabilizer operates within its designed stroke range through the full steering lock-to-lock arc without binding or over-extension. For 2016 and newer trucks, the kit is a complete bolt-on installation with no frame modification required. For 2011–2015 trucks, the OEM steering stabilizer frame clevis and tabs must be cut off the frame before the Cognito mount can be installed — a one-time modification that does not affect frame structural integrity.

❌ REQUIREMENTS:
⚠️ 2011–2015 Frame Modification Required: 2011–2014 trucks and certain 2015 model year trucks require cutting off the OEM steering stabilizer frame clevis and mounting tabs before installation. This is a one-time frame modification. Verify your specific 2015 model year build date to determine whether the OEM tabs are present before ordering.
Compatible with lift kits that retain the center link in the factory location — verify center link position before ordering if a non-Cognito lift kit is installed.
For maximum steering system performance, pair with the Cognito Pitman and Idler Arm Support Kit (sold separately) to address center-link compliance and pitman/idler arm wear concurrently with stabilizer installation.
Installation & Technical Notes
Estimated Install Time: Under 1 hour for 2016+ bolt-on installation; 1.5–2 hours for 2011–2015 installations requiring OEM frame clevis tab removal
2016+ Installation: Complete bolt-on — no cutting, no drilling, no welding. Remove the factory steering stabilizer and mount the Cognito kit per the included instructions.
2011–2015 Installation: Cut off the OEM steering stabilizer frame clevis and mounting tabs flush with the frame rail before installing the Cognito mount. Use a cut-off wheel or reciprocating saw — do not use a torch, as heat can affect frame steel temper. Grind smooth and apply rust-inhibiting primer to the cut surface before mounting.
Torque Specifications: Refer to Cognito's included instruction sheet for all mounting hardware torque values.
Complementary Upgrade: For complete steering system correction, install the Cognito Pitman and Idler Arm Support Kit concurrently — the stabilizer addresses damping, the PISK addresses center-link compliance and pitman/idler arm wear. Both are required for the full Cognito steering system performance benefit.
Wheel & Tire Fitment
The Cognito 2.0 IFP Steering Stabilizer Kit is compatible with all wheel and tire configurations on the 2011–2026 Silverado/Sierra 2500HD/3500HD platform. Larger tires and lifted suspension geometry increase the steering system loads that the stabilizer must damp — making this upgrade particularly valuable on builds running 35-inch or larger tires at lifted ride heights where factory stabilizer damping capacity is most severely exceeded.
Our team is standing by to verify your specific model year, lift kit configuration, and center link position to confirm 110-91348 is the correct stabilizer kit for your build. Purchase with confidence; we review every build.
