Description
Is This for You?
- You're mounting a Clayton skid plate and need the correct flush-mount hardware — flat head socket cap screws sit countersunk and flush with the skid surface, eliminating the raised bolt head profile that catches rocks, roots, and trail debris.
- You've lost, stripped, or rounded out the original skid plate bolts and need an exact replacement set — this is the OEM-spec hardware for Clayton skid plate installations: 3/8"-16 coarse thread, 1" length, 7/32" hex socket drive, 8-piece set.
- You're building a clean skid plate installation and won't accept hardware that snags on obstacles — countersunk flat head geometry keeps the underside profile smooth and snag-free through rock gardens, ledges, and high-centering situations.
The Result
- Flat head countersunk profile — sits flush with the skid plate surface, no raised bolt head to catch on rocks, roots, or trail obstacles.
- High-strength alloy steel at Grade 8 equivalent tensile strength — resists shear and pull-through under the impact loads of off-road skid plate use.
- Zinc plating for corrosion resistance — retards oxidation in normal atmospheric and off-road environments. Sold as a set of 8.
The COR-4100003 skid plate bolt kit uses 3/8"-16 coarse thread flat head socket cap screws at 1" length — the correct spec for flush-mounting Clayton skid plate sections where a raised bolt head would create a snag point on the underside of the vehicle. The flat head countersunk geometry allows the bolt to sit fully recessed into the skid plate mounting hole, producing a smooth underside profile that slides over rocks and obstacles without catching. Drive is a 7/32" hex socket (Allen), which provides higher torque transfer than a standard Phillips or slotted drive and resists cam-out under the torque loads required for skid plate installation. Material is high-strength alloy steel at Grade 8 equivalent tensile strength — rated for the shear and pull-through forces generated when a skid plate contacts a rock or ledge at speed. Zinc plating retards corrosion in normal atmospheric conditions. Sold as a set of 8 bolts.

Verified Fitment (OFAS Standard)
✅ Compatible with Clayton Off Road skid plate installations requiring 3/8"-16 x 1" flat head socket cap hardware
✅ Universal fit — any Clayton skid plate section using 3/8"-16 coarse thread flush-mount bolt spec
❌ Does NOT replace 1/2" or 5/16" bolt applications — verify your skid plate's thread spec before ordering
❌ Does NOT replace metric thread skid plate hardware
❌ Not for use in structural suspension pivot applications — skid plate mounting only
Installation & Fabrication Notes
- Use a 7/32" hex (Allen) key or bit — do not attempt to drive with a standard hex wrench that doesn't fully seat; partial engagement will round the socket.
- Apply thread locker (medium strength, blue) to threads before installation — skid plate bolts are subject to vibration and impact that can back out hardware over time.
- Torque to 18–22 ft-lbs for 3/8"-16 alloy steel in steel — verify with Clayton's skid plate installation spec if provided.
- Countersink depth in the skid plate must match the flat head angle (typically 82°) — if the bolt head sits proud of the surface, the countersink is undersized and must be corrected before installation.
- Inspect bolts after hard trail use — replace any bolt showing shear deformation, thread damage, or socket rounding before the next run.
Wheel & Tire Fitment
Hardware kit — no wheel or tire fitment restriction. Compatible with any Clayton skid plate installation on any Jeep platform using 3/8"-16 x 1" flat head socket cap hardware.
Engineering Question: Are you replacing hardware on an existing Clayton skid plate or installing a new skid section? Confirm your skid plate's mounting hole thread spec is 3/8"-16 coarse thread and the countersink angle matches an 82° flat head before ordering — using the wrong bolt length or head angle will prevent flush seating and leave a snag point on the underside.
